The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by the Indian National Congress won 262 of the 543 seats in the 15th Lok Sabha elections held in India in 2009. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came second with 116 seats. Other notable parties include the Third Front alliance with 59 seats, the Left Front with 26 seats, and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) with 21 seats. Voter turnout was approximately 58%.
