What do you understand by the Newtons Laws of Motion how to analyse
the motion of the body. What are the assumptions during the analysis of
1a the Bodies. What is the need for the assumptions and how these
05 CO1 K1
assumptions help in the analysis.
Define beam and what are different types of beams based on the
support conditions and explain the step by step process to find the 05
1b reaction and moments of a simply supported beams with point load P at
CO2 K1
the centre of the beam.
What do you understand by the moment of a couple, what do you 05
1c understand by the Varignon’s principle on moments, derive the CO2 K2
expression for the same.
Five strings are tied at a point and are pulled in all
directions equally spaced from one another as shown
in Fig.1 If the magnitude of the pulls on three
1d consecutive strings are 60, 70 and 50N. Find the 05 CO2 K2
magnitude of the pulls on the other two strings.
Consider the system is in equilibrium.

Determine the support reactions of a

beam shown in Figure.2

A system of parallel forces are acting on

a rigid bar as shown in Fig.2. Reduce the
system to (a) A single force, (b) A
3 single force and Couple at A. (b) A single 10 CO3 K3
force and A couple at B.

What do you understand by the shear force and bending moment
diagram? Explain. Draw the shear force and bending moment of a
4 cantilever beam having force of 10N at the middle of a 6 m long beam. It
10 CO2 K4
has also 40N/m distributed load from fixed end to 3 m distance.
The center O of the wheel has a
velocity V1 = 2.5 m/s up the
inclination with slope (10:1) as
shown in the figure at time t = 0.
5 Find the velocity V2 of the wheel 10 CO5 K4
when t = 7 s. The wheel has a
radius of gyration of 80 mm and
rolls without slipping.
The 10o doorstop is inserted with a
rightward horizontal force of 30 N. If the
confident of static friction for all the
6 surfaces is 0.3, determine the values of
Normal reactions on the upper and
10 CO4 K3
lower faces of the doorstop.

Two blocks are placed on the incline

with the cable taut. Determine the force
P required to initiate motion of the 15kg
7 block if P is applied down the incline. 10 CO4 K4

Calculate the forces in members BC, CG

and GF for the truss shown using method of
section.
8 10 CO3 K3

The spring of constant k is unstretched when 𝜃=0. Derive

an expression for the force P required to deflect the
system to an angle 𝜃. The mass of the bars is negligible.
