Communications/Media Department Applicants
Please use a separate sheet of college ruled paper to hand write your answers to the following questions. Please put your name at the top and number each answer to correspond with the questions below.
1. How comfortable are you with talking to people on the phone?
2. Have you ever done sales work of any kind? If so, what? Do you enjoy this kind of work? 3. How many words per minute can you type? 4. Do you enjoy writing? 5. Have you written captions, news articles or blogs before? 6. Do you have any examples of your writing that you can show me? 7. Would you consider yourself a “big picture person” or a “detail person?” Please elaborate. 8. Would you consider yourself to be a creative person? 9. How do you like to express your creativity? 10. Do you have any examples you could show me? 11. What inspires you to create? 12. Have you ever designed/drawn/produced something for someone else upon their request? 13. How did you approach that assignment? 14. How do you handle feedback/constructive criticism of your creations? 15. How well do you work under pressure? 16. Tell me about a time you had to complete a project under pressure of a deadline. 17. How well do you feel you are able to work on a project with others in a team? 18. Describe for me how you would handle a situation where you’re ideas for how to accomplish a your task differ significantly from what your supervisor has in mind. 21. If you were assigned with the task of interviewing several people in order to gather information to write an article about an event they participated in, how would you prepare for and execute that task? 22. You need to create a graphic for an advertisement you are making. This involves using photoshop and you don’t know how to create this effect. What would you do? 23. Suppose it is Tuesday afternoon. You have a list of tasks you hope to accomplish before the end of the day. One task is to post a collection of about 20 photos (out of about 400 that were taken) from last weekend’s event and write captions. Another is to make an event on the OA facebook page for Family Weekend which is just 3 weeks away (this would entail creating a graphic for the event). Lastly, you need to edit all 40 of the student school portraits so that the photo packages can be ordered in the morning. Could you describe to me in as detailed a manner possible, how you would prioritize these tasks, the length of time you feel each one would take, how you would go about doing each task and your rational. 24. How do you understand confidentiality as it relates to working in the communications department? 25.
