Solve the following questions:
1. Find an expression for the unit vector directed toward the origin from an arbitrary point on
the line described by x = 1 and z = -3
2. Find a vector G whose magnitude is 4 and whose direction is perpendicular to both vectors E
and F, where E = x̂+2ŷ-2ẑ and F =3ŷ-6ẑ.
3. Vector field E is given by E = R̂ 5Rcos𝜃 -𝜃 12/R sin𝜃 cos𝜑 +𝜑 3sin𝜑: Determine the
component of E tangential to the spherical surface R = 2 at point P = (2,30̊,60̊).
4. Use the appropriate expression for the differential surface area ds to determine the area of
each of the following surfaces:
7. Three infinite uniform sheets of charge are located in free space as follows: 3 nC/m2 at z =
−4 6 nC/m2 at z = 1, and −8 nC/m2 at z = 4. Find E at the point: (a) PA(2, 5, −5); (b) PB(4, 2,
−3); (c) PC(−1, −5, 2); (d) PD(−2, 4, 5).
8. A uniform line charge of 2µC/m is located on the z axis. Find E in rectangular coordinates at
P(1, 2, 3) if the charge exists from (a) −∞ < z < ∞; (b) −4 ≤ z ≤ 4.
9. A circular beam of charge of radius a consists of electrons moving with a constant speed u
along the +z-direction. The beam’s axis is coincident with the z-axis and the electron charge
density is given by ρν = -cr2 (c/m3). where c is a constant and r is the radial distance from
the axis of the beam. Determine the charge density per unit length.
10. Three point charges, each with q = 3 nC, are located at the corners of a triangle in the x–y
plane, with one corner at the origin, another at (2 cm,0,0), and the third at (0,2 cm,0). Find
the force acting on the charge located at the origin.
