Residents of Antipolo City are mainly Tagalogs. Minor communities of the indigenous Dumagat people are
foundinBarangay Calawis andSitios Old Boso-Boso, San Isidro, San JoseandKaysakat inBarangay San Jose. The war
on poverty and the quality of life of indigenous people residing in remote areas of Antipolo City were the issues
discussed recently during the Convergence Building Zero Extreme Poverty PH 2030 seminar at Antipolo City Hall
(Aycocho, 2017). As the President of the Philippines aims to help Filipino people to have jobs and provide their needs
through “Build, Build, Build program”, there are still several communities like Barangay San Jose, who cannot feel
the progress because they experience difficulties in accessing to their necessities. The economic status of Barangay
San Jose is not that quite progressive, andthe location of the most accessible commercial building is saidtobe14
kilometers away. Thus, the residents rely on buying their daily necessities through vendors and peddlers of goods.
To continue the custom and tradition present in the city of Antipolo, and to incorporate modern and accessible
establishment, a structure is needed to be built which could supply the necessities of the community of nearby areas
and would contribute to the commercial development of the area. This project aims to design a five-story earthquake-
resistant commercial building in Barangay San Jose,Antipolo City to help the community to gain access to their needs
without hassle. It is intended to build within the area of Antipolo City. As acity with rapidly increasing population, itis
appropriate toerectacommercial building that can offer different goods and services that are needed by the public.
Commercial buildings will be a great help, especially to the people of Barangay San Jose, to access daily necessities in
one stop. It is not just a place of commerce, but it can also help the community to grow and connect. Aside from that,
it will generate jobs, enhance real estate values, and improve transportation.

The structure has a dimension of 25m by 80m and has a total floor area of each floor is 2,000
square meters. The floor-to-floor distance of each story is 3.2 meters. The center-to- center distance
between the columns of the frames are 6m and 6.3m in the transverse side. Also, the center-to-
center distance between the columns of the frames are 6 m and 6.4m in the longitudinal side. The
ground floor area was intended for the wet and dry public market. The second floor up to the fifth
floor is where you can find the stalls. There are enough accessible escalators and stairs provided
because it is expected that a large volume of people is going to utilize the building. All of the fire
exits and comfort rooms were located at the corner part of the building.
The project objective is subdivided into general objective and specific objectives.
The main objective of the project is to design a sustainable, safe, and economic five-story
commercial building in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo, Rizal that will provide access to the needs of the
people and improve its economicgrowth.
The client of this project is Mr. Reynaldo B. Rundina, the owner of the Shy-Vouy Construction Co. The client
prefers the project to be done as economically as possible but can serve more for rent spaces in its full potential
and wants the project to be accomplished within 750 days for a budget of 75,000,000 pesos.

1.4.1 Scope
This are the following are the scope of the design project:
1.) The design of the commercial building will be conceptualized following the national
building code of the Philippines and the National Structural Code of the Philippines
2015.
2.) The Architectural and Structural plan of the Five- story Commercial building will be
provided.
3.) The design will give structural integrity and stability of the five – story commercial
building, and also , analysis and evaluation of the given trade-offs considering the
constraints will be included.
4.) A cost estimate of the materials that will be used in the structural will also be provided.
5.) The design will cover the schematic plan and the early structural configuration of the
proposed design.
1.4.2 limitation
This are the following are the scope of the design project:
1.) The design does not cover other plans such as mechanical, plumbing, sanitary, electrical, and fire
protection system. Since it only focuses on the structural design of the five- story commercial
building.
2.) The interior aesthetic design of the commercial building will not be provided.
3.) The cost of operation and machinery will not be included in the cost estimate for structural context
4.) The design does not cover the cost estimates for architectural, electrical, and mechanical elements.
8
The project design will go through different project stages. First, to determine the current problem
designers aim to address to merge every single idea and formulate a solution to solve the existing
problem. Second, conceptualization in designing the five-story commercial building. The data will
also serve as evidence and basis for improvement of the determination of project design. Third,
gathering of data to be used as inputs in the design project. It will also be the basis of whether the
plan is competent enough to meet the level of safety and durability. There are specific design
standards that are required to follow before coming up with the design, they are the National
Structural Codes of the Philippines and National Building Code of the Philippines. The designers
will also consider the design constraints, which later on will be the competing criteria to come up
with the initial design.
After designing the three (3) alternatives, the designers will come up with the final design, which is
more efficient following the constraints.
Constraints - The designers identified and selected hindrances that will affect the formulation ofthe
design so that in the early stagethe constraints will be minimized. Each conceivable constraints and
standards are considered to formulate solutions
Trade-offs - The designers evaluate options used for the project and approach best meets
the goal of the project considering the constraints.
Analysis and Design - The design for each trade-off is to properly explain each of its
advantages and disadvantages, as well as its limitations, which were provided by the design team.
After analyzing each trade-off with their specific aspects; results were compared and evaluated to
come up with the most efficient alternative.
Final Design - The final design was based on the most efficient and effective result
evaluated by the designers.
