1 Preface
Thanks for using JW-GX□□□series metal detector
In order to operate and maintenance the machine well, this manual will give a
detailed instruction about its function and operations.

1.1 Basic instruction

1．This machine is used to detect metal in packages, remove packages which
contain metal material by reject device or stopping running.
2．The packages include bulk product in paper bag, plastic bag and paper box.
But package with metal film cann’t suitable this machine.
3．The machine has function of Auto program setup, stable, high speed and
high accuracy.
4．The model No. is JW-GX□□□,which is explained as follows:

1.2 Precautions
1．Work environment：

1 Temperature：0～400C

2 Moisture：35～85%

3 Power：AC 220±10% 50/60HZ

4 Install place：horizontal surface without shaking

5 Connect with ground: safety and reliable connect ground line

6 Interference source: keep it far away or shielded. Stay far away from big
movable metal object and machines who creates a magnetic field

2．Use independent power cable, don’t use cable with other machine that’s
easy to make noise.

3．Pls cut the power off when maintain or clean the machine

4．Forbid non-professional person to maintain the machine when there is

electrical problems.

5．For connecting signal with other machine, the DC voltage should below 30V,
electric current should below 100mA

3 Work theory
Metal detector adopts the theory of electromagnetic induction to detect.
Detecting head is made of three loops which is circled on the fixed frame(there
is one launching loop and two receiving loops.). Launching loop forms a fixed
magnetic field, and receiving loops create electric signal according to
electromagnetic induction, forming a detecting passageway. (As below chart 3.1.1)

For common situations the system is in balanced condition, as chart 3.1.2

When the package contents with metal material passed through detecting
passageway, it causes magnetic filed’s change, broking system’s balanced
condition, as chart 3.1.3.

The electric voltage isn’t balanced again when there is metal material in the loops,
so loops’ electric signal change, then the machine will deal with the signal, and
judge whether there is metal material in the package or not, as chart 3.1.4

4 Machine structure

5 Daily Operation
5.1 User login
When the machine is connected with power supply, it enters user login menu
automatically, as chart 5.1.1.

1．Top left of screen is the system’s current date and time.
2．English：Touch“English” button on the top right screen to choose language.
3．Version：shows the motherboard program version No.
4．Pls input password ： user login needs to input password, level 1
password:181818, level 2 password:282828
5．Level ： the user’s current operation right, high grade operation right can
operate all the operation function for lower grade.When the current login user's
operating authority is lower than the required permissions,the operation manual will

shows “ ”， then please return to the user login interface to enter a higher

level password.
6．GO：Touch“GO”button to enter main menu.

5.2 Main menu

Touch “GO” button to enter main menu, as chart 5.2.1

1．the first line of screen is status bar, displaying the current menu’s name,
user level grade and system’s date and time
2．Run: enter run menu
3．Program：enter program setup page
4．Manual test: enter manual test menu
5．System setup: enter system setup menu
6．Exit:user exit main menu to login menu, and the user level grade will reset
to 0

5.3 Run

1．Signal wave shape:As chart 5.3.1, the grid area is signal wave shape

display area.The signal wave displayed in this field as chart5.3.2. Blue curve is
signal 1 and red curve is signal 2.Threshold area is the area between two brown line.
When wave shape over threshold area, alarm occurs, it means that metal material
is detected.
2．Press “>>”button to enter running menu displayed by bar graph, as chart
5.3.3 shows
3．bar graph:
1 １ bar graph dynamic display signal 1 strength, when signal strength is
within threshold range, it displays as green. When signal strength is over threshold
range, it displays as red, that’s, it detects metal materials
2 ２ bar graph dynamic display signal 2 strength, when signal strength is
within threshold range, it displays as green. When signal strength is over threshold
range, it displays as red, that’s, it detects metal materials
3 The bar graph between 1 bar graph and 2 bar graph is the threshold for
reference.
4．Press“<<”button, return running menu displayed by signal wave shape
5．Running status indicate light: red means the machine stops working; green
means the machine is running automatically
6．Prog. No.：Current program number
7．Alarm quantity ： Alarm quantity for detecting metal material in current
automatically running
8．Run：start to run automatically
9．Stop：stop running automatically
10. Exit：exit running automatically and back to main menu

Attentions when running

 The min size of metal material that metal detector can detect is decided by the
package(size, shape, weight, type etc.) and metal material(material, shape) and
the metal detector’s installment situation
 When the package is passing through detecting head, don’t make the package
shuffle with passageway to avoid wrong alarm.
 Timing（30 - 60 minutes）to test machine’s detecting sensitity by testing card,
adjust parameter on time, decreasing wrong chance.
 In the work environment of high temperature and high moisture, machine’s
radiating will be affected, test sensitity will decrease
 When the machine is working, operators should keep 30cm away from
detecting head, don’t put any metal material near it.

5.4 Production Records

Touch “Records” button on the main menu to enter production records menu,
as chart 5.4.1

1．Display Records：Input the needed record number to check, it also displays
exiting record quantity.
2．Refresh：Enter the record number you want to view in the input box and
press refresh button the update record.
3．Started At：The start time for this record.
4．Finished At：The finished time for this record.
5．Prog. No.：Display the program No. of this record.
6．Prod. Name：Display the product name of this record.
7．Total Bags：Total detecting packages’ quantity.
8．Alarm Quantity ： Detecting packages’s quantity which contents metal
material.
9．Pass Rate：The percentage of qualified bags in total bags.
10．Prev.：Previous record
11．Next：Next record
12．Delete：Delete all the records, it needs level 2 password to operate, and
will display the below windows to confirm, as chart 5.4.2
1 Yes：Delete all the records
2 Cancel：Exit the window without any operations.

13．Alarm Record:Display the alarm record of this production record(when

input 0 not available to check record).
14．Copy to USB:Input USB to the HMI,and press this button,then can copy
the production record to USB,the production record is in”.csv”file.

5.5 Alarm records

Touch “Alarm Records” button on the “Records” to enter alarm records menu, as
chart 5.5.1.
1．NO：Number for the alarm occurs.
2．Time：time for this alarm occurs.

5.6 Manual test

Touch “Manual Test”button on the main menu to enter manual test menu, as chart

Manual test menu is mainly to test each signal passageway’s line conditions:
1．Reject device：Touch“OFF”button，display as“ON”, reject device will act one
time.
2．Alarm horn：Touch“OFF”button，display as“ON”，alarm speaker will ring one
time.
3．Alarm output：Touch“OFF”button，display as“ON”，the alarm output port has
a 200ms pulse to output one time.
4．Exit：Exit manual text menu and back to main menu.

5.6 Program setup

Touch “Program” on main menu to enter program setup menu, as chart5.6.1

Chart 5.6.1
1．Prog. No.：Program number for different products, the machine can store
100 kinds of products(1～100)
2．Prod. Name：made of figure, alphabet and others, at most 6 characters
3．Selection Phase：When the packages’ material feature is good, pls select
phase; otherwise forbid phase
1 NO：Phase is forbid
2 YES：Phase is selected
4．Phase：Packages’ material feature（0.0～180.0°）.The material’s signal
feedback(product effect) is different when the material is in different phase, one
phase with big product effect, other with small. Besides, there are two signals for
material’s product effect in the software, they have 90 degree phase difference.
Some material with small product effect in one signal, wave shape is flat; but big
product effect and change wave shape in another signal, then wrong alarm occurs.
This situation needs to select phase to shield signal with big product effect and use
the signal with small product effect, when there is metal material, wave shape
changes very apparently, decrease wrong alarm chance
5．Magnification times ： Signal’s magnification factor, adjust it by operating

or . Bigger the figure, more apparently wave shape changes, higher

intensitity, then it is more easy to occur wrong alarm（recommend：150～350）

6．Threshold value：Threshold value for signal causing alarm. If signal strength
reaches or over this figure, alarm will occur, meaning that detect metal material（1～
100，recommend：5～6）
7．Reject Delay ： It is from the time when reject device see packages with
photoelectric eye, and delay a set period to act(when there is metal material)（0～
999×10ms）
8．Reject TM：Act time for reject device（0～999×10ms）
9．Alarm Time:Alarm signal output time after detecting metal（0～999 s）
10．Copy to：Copy the current group program to other program group（1～20）
11．Save：Save the set program to certain program group
12．Recover：Recover one default group program to current program group
13．Auto set：Enter auto set menu, detailed as 5.8 Auto set
14．Exit：Exit program setup menu and back to main menu

5.7 Auto set

Touch “Auto set” button on program setup menu to enter auto set menu, as
chart 5.7.1

1．Pause：Pause the signal wave shape figure’s up-to-date, keep it in current
status
2．Delete：Delete all the signal wave shape’s history figures
3．Selection Phase、Phase、Magnification times、Threshold value：Detailed
in 5.6 Program setup
4．Current Phase ： It displays the phase for the packaging that’s in the
passageway
5．Exit：Exit auto set menu, and conveying motor stops, back to program setup
6．Auto set for program
1 Aim for auto set: According to the test and analyze of product features,
metal detect creates suitable “Phase” “Magnification times” “Threshold value”
automatically
2 Preparation: Prepare the detecting package for auto set, make sure that
the package doesn’t content metal material. pls set “selection phase” as “No”,
“threshold value” as “6”,“Magnification times” as “250”. When metal detector is in
stable running, let the detecting package pass and check the signal wave shape’s
changing.The signal wave shape will over the threshold value only when the

detecting package is passing through passageway, otherwise it changes within

threshold value. If the signal wave shape isn’t as above, pls adjust “Magnification
times” to meet above requirements.
3 Start：after prepare for the above steps, touch “start” button to enter auto
set, pls operate according to tips on the down left on screen. “Exit” button will hide
automatically, it displays when auto set is completed or cancel.
4 Ready to set：enter preparation phase before auto set, pls wait for the next
tip.
5 Please put into products ： Put the detecting package stably on the
entrance . it will have a 20 seconds count-down, pls complete the package’s
passing within 20 seconds. During auto set, there will be many times about “please
put into products” displaying, usually 4-6times
6 System busy, please wait ： Metal detector is analyzing the passing
product’s feature, Don’t interfere it. When it is over, “times” will add 1 automatically,
metal detector will have next tip. Operate as tip
7 Setup success!：Program’s auto set is successful
8 Setup failed, please fine tune parameters or try again：Auto set for program
failed, it needs to adjust parameters slightly(when metal detector without
photoelectric eyes), touch “start” button again to auto set
9 Save：When it indicates “Setup success”, touch “save”, and write all the
auto set parameters to current program group and back to program setup
10 Cancel：Give up this auto set, exit auto set
7．Check: When the auto set completes, it needs to check all the auto set
parameter
1 When package without metal material passes, no wrong alarm occurs
2 Put testing card with package without metal material, let them pass through
passageway, then metal detector alarms. If no alarm, change testing card with
bigger diameter metal, and check again. Follow this step until metal detector
detects metal. This testing card is detecting tensitity for this group program can
detect.

5.8 System setup

Touch “System setup” button on main menu to enter system setup menu, as
chart 5.8.1

1．Starting phase：Metal detector’s inherent features. User should’t change it,
pls store this figure well
2．Frequency：Metal detector’s inherent work frequency. User cann’t modify it,
pls store this figure well
3．Start Delay ： When metal detector’s unqualified stop function is set as
“YES”,start auto running, conveying motor start moving from static, it will cause
mechanical shaking, then metal detector may wrong alarm and stop auto
running,that’s why to set this parameter. Pls use it carefully （ 0 ～ 1500×10ms
recommend：0）
4．Backlight TM ： If the screen without any operations, after a set period,
backlight will close to longer screen usage time. When set as 0, backlight keeps
lighting all the time（0～600minutes）
5．Seismic grade：signal interference’s grade caused by machine restraining
vibrating. More big the value, more strong restraining effect. Thus detecting
accuracy will decrease. As the value is best when machine is manufactured, it is 0,
user don’t need to modify

6．Filter：Time value for filtering interference signal,As the value is best when
machine is manufactured, user don’t need to modify
7．Zero Delay:when motherboard of metal detector power on again,the zero of
delaying collection signal.
8．Have None Photoelectric Eye:Select whether the metal detector head is
equipped with photoelectric eye（default NO）
9．Level 1：Machine’s current level 1 password. Input figure to modify level 1
password. It needs to input the right level 1 password
10．Level 2：Machine’s current level 2 password. Input figure to modify level 2
password. It needs to input the right level 2 password.
11．Time Setting：Display and modify machine’s system time
12．Date Setting：Display and modify machine’s system date
13．Screen Version：Display screen version number
14．CPU Version：Display CPU Version number
15．Screen ： To enter position touch calibration model of screen, it need to
touch the button more than 1 second.
16．Recover ： Recover parameters to default. It needs level 2 password to
operate. It will display “Yes/cancel” window as chart 5.8.2

6 Maintenance & Repair

6.1 Maintenance
In order to keep normal running and extend its durability, please keep daily
maintenance well
1．Maintenance
1 Pls use clean cloth with neutral cleaning solution clean the appearance of
the machine after the daily work
2．Cautions
1 Don’t clean machine with metal brush
2 Don’t use alcohol to clean screen

6.2 Repair
For maintenance and repair, pls cut off power and ask professionals to operate.
Don’t put the tools, removed screw etc. on convey belt, avoid polluting belt

7 Transportation & Storage

Transport, install and disassemble it with care. No throwing, bumping,
turning or reversing. Prevent it from rain and strong vibration.

8 Open package & Inspection

1． To avoid damaging the machine surface as opening the crate, open the top
cover before opening the side cover.
2． Check if followings are attached with the machine:
1 User’s Handbook/Instruction Manual
2 Packing List
3． Follow the Packing List to inspect the machine and spare parts.
