Sequence of Events
No Job Steps Description
1 Splicing of 12-core FOC  Installation of FOC Patch Leads as per IFC drawing
 A new ODF enclosure will be installed to joint the FOC.
 Dressing of FOC from HDPE to ODF enclosure.
 The work will be carried out on an existing FOC that is cut under the old
CCR cabine.
 Splicing procedure will be as follows:
1. Strip the fiber
 The splicing process begins with the preparation for both fibers ends to be
connected.
 Remove the protective coatings, jackets, tubes, and strength members until
having a bare fiber.
 Ensure the cleanliness of the fiber.
2. Cleave the fiber
 The cleaver merely nicks the fiber and then pulls or flexes it. So to cause a
clean break rather than cut the fiber.
 The cleave end-face should be perfectly flat and perpendicular to the axis for a
proper splice.
3. Join the fiber
 Obtain a cut on the fiber exactly at right angles to the axis.
 Connect the fiber ends together inside the mechanical splice unit. The index
matching gel inside the mechanical splice apparatus is helpful. Because it can
couple the light from one fiber end to another.
 Once fibers are spliced, place them in a splice tray and then in a splice
closure.
 Seal shrink tubing to prevent moisture damage from the splices.

2 Testing and Inspection of Visual check and assessment to current system and devices on Old CCR
FOC from Old CCR to and Meeting Room:
Meeting Room  Devices operational status.
 Cabling availability, installation and termination.
 Power requirement and availability of adapters.
 Interconnections availability.
 Labeling and tagging.
 If any missing cables and/or connections.
 All inspection and commissioning works will be coordinated with DNO
System Engineer and Sys. Technician.

Testing of Fibre Optic Cables

 This test will be carried out to trace and/or measure the loss of an
installed fibre optic cable, single mode or multimode, including the
loss of all fibre, splices and connectors.
 To inspect continuity from Old CCR
 A visible laser source will be connected to one end of the cable verify the
transmission to the opposite end.
 determine whether the right fiber optic cable is connected to the right
patch panel location.
 ensure light passes from fiber to fiber without excessive loss or back
reflections.
 Laser will be applied at one end and continuity test will be undertaken on
the next one.

Test Procedure
 Turn on OTDR and allow time to warm-up
 Clean all connectors and mating adapters.
 Attach launch cable to OTDR. Attach receive cable (if used) to far
end of cable.
 Set up test parameters on OTDR.
 Attach cable to test to end of launch cable. Attach receive cable (if
used) to far end of cable.
 Acquire trace.

Testing shall include the following:

 Link loss measurements
 Fibre Attenuation (dB/KM)
 Splice and connector loss
 Reflectance and optical return loss measurements
 Length measurement
 Inspection of network devices’ installation.

All test results shall be documented:

 Testing organisation details.
 Date, time and location of test.
 Description of equipment tested.
 Description of test equipment used to include calibration dates.
 Test procedure.
 Test results.

3 Site Clean Up  Supervisor to ensure the work areas are clean and tidied, prior to leaving the
