U250E
Description
The new design uses lube oil on the front side of the piston to aide in the release of
the clutch as shown.

U250E
Centrifugal Fluid Pressure Canceling Mechanism
The balance piston creates a “piston fluid pressure chamber” that uses
lube oil to create centrifugal fluid pressure on top of the piston. This
counteracts any centrifugal pressure created on the bottom or apply side
of the piston.
This eliminated the need to discharge the fluid through the use of a check
ball, and is highly responsive to create smooth shift characteristics.

Solenoid ID
The U250 Solenoids are very easy to mix up. Many of the electrical connectors
are the same color and the bodies of the solenoids look almost Identical
If you mix up the solenoid various symptoms will develop so it is very important
To get the solenoid into its correct location.
Always mark the solenoids and bores to make it easier for you to reinstall the
Solenoids after repair
If you failed to ID the solenoid and bore prior to removal you can ID the solenoid
By looking at the slots cut into the body of the solenoid snout.
Count the number of slots on the electrical connector side of the solenoid body
SL1---2 Slots, SL2---4 Slots, SL3---4 Slots, SL4---5 Slots

SL and SLT Solenoid Description
The linear solenoid valve SLT controls the transmission line pressure for a
smooth shift based on signals from the TPS and VSS. The ECM adjusts the
duty cycle of the SLT solenoid valve to control hydraulic line pressure
coming from the primary regulator valve.
Solenoid Valves SL1, SL2, SL3 and SLT have the same basic structure

DSL, S4 and SR Solenoid Description
The Solenoid Valve SR controls the solenoid relay valve. The fluid passages
from the solenoid valve DSL and S4 have been redesigned starting in 2007

Hard Downshifts
Introduction
Some 2005 – 2009 model year Camry vehicles equipped with the 2AZ-FE engine and
U250E automatic transaxle (ATM) may exhibit a harsh 5–4 downshift under the
following conditions:
• AT at normal operating temperature
• After driving above 45 mph (72 km/h)
• Decelerating through 28 mph (45 km/h)
Repair
The line pressure control solenoid assembly (SLT) has been improved to reduce this
condition on customer complaint vehicles.
