Locating and Configuring Studio 5000 Logix Designer Application

Components

The Studio 5000 Logix Designer application is used to configure, program, and
maintain all Logix 5000 systems.

It enables you to configure Logix 5000 modules, such as I/O cards, communications
cards, and motion modules.

You can configure remote devices through a communications card and monitor
project and system components during operation and troubleshooting.

The application provides a versatile display that can be customized as per your
working style.

Studio 5000 Logix Designer Application

In the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application, you can create a New Project, Open
Recent Projects, Open an Existing Project, or perform other functions, such as open a
sample project or create a new project from a sample project.
By selecting the New Project option, you can create or open a FactoryTalk View
application, a Studio 5000 Logix Designer application, or a Studio 5000 View Designer
application.

A Studio 5000 View Designer application can be used to create an interface for new
PanelView 5500 graphic terminals.

Key Components of the Studio 5000 Logix Designer Application

When you open a project file, the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application shows
various components.
The panel on the left-hand side of the project file window is called the Controller
Organizer. It functions similar to the Windows Explorer and provides all information
about the project. It organizes the entire project in a tree structure and arranges the
code based on the execution order of the controller within the software-generated
folder.

The Logical Organizer is also a tree structure that is used to organize the tags and
code of a project. It organizes code independent of the execution model in the
Controller Organizer and displays programs and tags in logical groupings within
user-defined folders.
The Routine editor is used to view and edit a selected routine. and the Tags window
is used to view and edit the selected tags collection.
The Output window consists of three tabs. You can also access these tabs from the
view menu.

The Error tabs lists any error or warnings discovered during project verification. It
reduces development time by providing a link that navigates directly to the part of
the project containing the error.

The Search Results tab contains the results of a search for a project component.

The Watch tab acts as a window that enables the user to view the data of an open
routine or a custom set of data.

The Online Bar is a toolbar that allows a user to view and change program and
controller status information and functionality, such as operating mode, forces and
redundancy.
The Quick View pane provides summary information about the selected item in the
Controller or Logical Organizer. The information displayed in th eQuick View pane
depends on the folder, component or device that has been selected.

The Help System is a combination of the embedded and online tools that provide
assistance when programming or maintaining a Logix 5000 system. It enables you to
access various informative resources, such as: Online Books, Quick star, the Learning
Center, and the Resource Center.

Configuring the display of the Studio 5000 Logix Designer Application

The displays of Studio 5000 Logix Designer application can be configured to suit your
work preference. From the View menu, you can display or hide various toolbars.
The toolbars and other windows can be moved or docked, or they can be floating.
You can also configure windows to auto-hide. Certain toolbars can be customized
to display the desired toolbar buttons.

It is also possible to customize the default data type in the application. This can be
useful when creating multiple tags of the same type.
In the Tools menu, select Options… to open the Workstation Options dialog box.
Here, you have more options to modify and configure how your display will appear.
