MARIA L: Hello hello and welcome to Tecinfo you're favourite 5 minute afternoon news. I’m
Maria Leiva, and I am super glad to have you with us. Today is special because among the
long list of cities to which we have chosen to travel, today we decide to go on a journey to
the beautiful city of Cuzco Perú.To continue my partner Montse will explain in more detail
about this beautiful city.

MONTSE: Thank You Maria, so I think that we need to know where the location of Cuzco is.
The city is located in Peru's southern highlands, at the west end of the Huatanay valley,
which is a basin extending 20 miles (30km) east. Usually, it is cold at night and the
temperature increases considerably until noon. Frost is rare. The rainy season goes from
November to March, and the dry season goes from April to October. Now Maria is going to

MARIA L: To continue The myth of the founding of Cuzco dictates that the sun god Inti,
designated these lands to the warrior Manco Capac and his family, around the 1st
Millennium BC, later the descendants of the warrior formed the powerful Inca Empire, with
Cuzco as the capital, which in the native language, known as Quechua, means navel or
center.
This city was divided into two regions, the highlands and the lowlands. Later the Imperial
Cuzco was made up of neighborhoods that were connected to each other and that were
dedicated to agriculture and livestock.
The splendor of the Inca culture ended in 1533 with the Spanish conquest

SOFIA: Inside this city there are many places to visit but in this case we will share with you
the 4 that you definitely can not leave Cuzco without visiting them.
Santo Domingo: The church of Santo Domingo is built on the ruins of the famous Inca site
of Coricancha,Temple of the Sun. Coricancha means "golden courtyard," and its walls were
once lined in sheets of solid gold.
Sacsayhuaman: The massive fortified complex of Sacsayhuaman is the most significant
ruin in Cusco, and is close enough to the historic center that you can walk there. Many
tourists stop to see it. Sacsayhuaman is thought to have both military and religious
significance. Cusco was designed in the shape of a puma, with Sacsayhuaman as the head.
Plaza de Armas: The Plaza de Armas has been the heart of Cusco from the time of the Inca
Empire, when the square was called Huacaypata or Aucaypata.
Museo Inka: The best museum in Cusco for those interested in the Incas, Museo Inka is
housed in the ornate 16th-century Spanish Admiral's House, a building worth the visit in its
own right. The collections focus on the Incas, from the rise of their culture to the Conquest
and its impact on Peruvian cultures.

MARIA D: Peruvian cuisine is the culmination of three distinct food cultures, which are
countries like Africa, Spain, Italy, China and Japan, thats were the countries that we need to
culminate to found the Peruvian Fusion.
One of the typical foods of cusco it's an incredible diversity of food crops such as potatoes,
purple corn, quinoa, cocoa, plantains, botija olives, bright green lemons. Dairy products are
popular and meat and fish are a big part of the Peruvian diet. Indigenous animals like the
famous cuy (guinea pig) and alpaca are eaten around Cusco and beyond whilst game such
as wild pig, deer and even monkey is occasionally eaten in the jungle. The difficulty in
breeding cattle at high altitude meant beef was historically produced on the coast near Lima
but it is now eaten in Cusco too, alongside chicken, lamb and pork. The Pacific Ocean
provides much of the country's fish and seafood but the Amazon and other rivers are also
fished, mainly for trout, but also for turtles and piranhas.
The local diet in cusco has been based on corn, potatoes, rice and indigenous animals for
hundreds of years.

NURIA: During your stay in Cusco there are many options of hotels where you can spend a
wonderful stay, but the following are the most recommended ones:
Palacio del Inka, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Cuzco: This is a Marriott Hotel, the rating of this
hotel is 5 stars, the night is on $7,131 pesos and includes free wifi, gym, restaurant,
transport to the airport, spa and security
Sonesta Hotel Cuzco: The rating is of 4.5, the night is on $2,226 and includes free wifi,
breakfast, transport to the airport, security 24/7, meeting room; the room includes air
conditioning, room service, TV, hydromassage bathtub, minibar, blackout curtains, minibar,
sofa bed and a desk.
And how can we forget the restaurants where the culinary experiences are unforgettable?
We suggest the following ones
Piedra & Sal Restaurante: the rating of this restaurant is 5 stars and the food, service and
quality is amazing.
Marcelo Batata Restaurant: Has a rating of 4.5 stars, people say that it's special and that it
has good service and location.
Cicciolina: It's an amazing restaurant with a rating of 4.5 stars. People say that the food
quality and the service are really good.

MONTSE: We will now close our trip with some interesting facts: starting with that, Cusco is
the oldest city on the American continent with a history of continuous habitation for more
than 3000 years. This ancient city was established by Manco Capac in 1200 A.D.
MARIA L: This city was the inspiration of the famous Disney movie called The Emperor's
New Groove, whose main character name is Kuzco, and includes many cultural references
of the Incas and Peru.
NURIA: The spanish invaders conserved the original name of the Inca capital after they
conquered it, just changing Qusqo (In Quechua) to Cusco (In Spanish)
MARIA D: Since the mid-1990s and with the decline of terrorist activity in the country,
tourism has greatly increased and it is estimated that around 1.5 million tourists visit Cusco
every year, the city has become the main tourist attraction in Peru and one of the most
visited cities in South America.
SOFIA N: Weather in the Andes is characterized for having many climates, or micro
climates, that vary according to its altitude. Cuzco enjoys a very stable climate that can be
observed through the year.

MARIA L: This is the end of our tour of the incredible city of Cuzco, we thank you for staying
with us up to this point, and remember that we will continue traveling around the world, here
in your favorite newscast.
