Assignment 1

This document contains the details of Assignment-1 for the course TEE-231 Analog Electronics. It includes 12 problems related to diode characteristics, rectifier circuits, and logic gates. Students are asked to draw circuit diagrams, plot input-output characteristics, and calculate output voltages and currents for various diode and rectifier circuits. They must also solve problems from the Sedra & Smith textbook on diode models and applications. The assignment is due on October 10th, 2020.

TEE-231- Analog Electronics

Assignment-1 (Due date: 10th Oct 2020)

1. Draw the output waveform and input/output characteristics of the following

circuit.

2. (a) Plot the input/output characteristics of the circuits depicted in the following Fig.
using an ideal model for the diodes. Assume VB = 2V.
(b) If the input is given by Vin = V0 cos ωt, plot the output of each circuit in the
following Fig as a function of time. Assume an ideal diode model.

3. (a) In the circuits of following Fig, plot the current flowing through R1 as a function of
Vin. Assume a constant-voltage diode model.
(b) For the circuits illustrated in following Fig, plot Vout as a function of time if Iin = I0
cos ωt. Assume a constant-voltage model and a relatively large I0.
(c) Assuming a constant-voltage diode model, plot Vout as a function of Iin for the circuits
shown in Fig.
4. While constructing a full-wave rectifier, a student mistakenly has swapped the
terminals of D3 as depicted in following Fig. Explain what happens.

5. Afull-wave rectifier is driven by a sinusoidal input Vin = V0 cos ωt, where V0 = 3 V and
ω = 2π(60 Hz). Assuming VD,on = 800 mV, determine the ripple amplitude with a
1000-μF smoothing capacitor and a load resistance of 30 Ω.

6. Draw the transfer characteristic of the circuit shown in fig.

7. Find the output voltage Vout of the clipper circuit of figure given below assuming that
the diodes are (a) Ideal and (b) Von = 0.7 V. For both cases, assume RF is zero.
8. Calculate the output voltage for (a) V1 = V2 = 0 (b) V1 = 0, V2 = 5 and vice versa
(c) V1 = V2 = 5. Which logic gate is represented by this circuit?

Given: Rs = 1kohm and R = 10kohm

9. Assuming a barrier potential of 0.7V and a reverse saturation current of 5nA at

an ambient temperature of 25oC, what is the barrier potential and reverse
saturation current of Si diode when the junction temperature is 100oC ?
