PLANTING DESIGN AND SPECIFICATION


Bacelor Senibina Landskap Tahun 3 Semester 1- 2022/2023

ASSIGNMENT STUDIO - Garden of Knowledge (UPM Publisher’s Office)

Keperluan / Requirements

i) Main requirement
The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable
future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty,
inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. The Goals
interconnect and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve each Goal and
target by 2030.

ii) Design requirements


 Knowledge of design characteristics of plants and their suitability in the landscape and verbal
presentation
 Planting design process which includes site analysis, selection of plant species and planting
design principles
 Plants composition/arrangement, human behaviour, the relationship between interior and
exterior
 Planting details and specifications
 Specification and cost estimation for softscape project implementation

For this project, you are required to design an area located at the UPM Publisher’s building, UPM. The
planting design concept should take into consideration the role of the building, its context and the
potential users.

UPM Press is one of the entities under the Office of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation,
Universiti Putra Malaysia. The main role of UPM Press is to publish books, journals and other scholarly
publications based on research, written by academicians from within and outside UPM. Beginning
February 1, 2020, UPM Press was upgraded and became the University Publishing Centre headed by a
director. Besides an Administration Section, there are also the Editorial and Production Section, Design
and Creative Media Section, Sales and Marketing Section and the Pertanika Journal Section. UPM Press
runs its operation with income generated through the sale of published books and professional
publication services offered to all the Responsibility Centres at UPM and agencies outside UPM.

This active role is played by the UPM Publisher, which is a department that is also responsible for
documenting and disseminating the knowledge generated by the University. What is remarkable is that
the books published by UPM Publishers are not only used by UPM students themselves, but also by other
public and private HEIs.

Students can benefit from the publications produced by visiting the UPM Publisher. A wide selection of
titles and publications covering many topics can be purchased at affordable prices. Books published as
important reference texts for several courses offered at UPM, and general references to specific
disciplines, are also available.

Pemarkahan/ Marks

 Minima kehadiran adalah 80% dan jika tiga kali tidak menghadiri kelas
tanpa sebarang sebab, pelajar tidak dibenarkan untuk membuat
persembahan akhir (Akta Universiti dan Kolej 1971 Perlembagaan UPM
2003, p.12)
Minimum attendance is 80% and if the student is absent three times
without any valid reason given, he/she will not be allowed to present
their final project (University and College Act 1971, UPM Constitution
2003, p.12)

 Lewat untuk hadir di studio pada 30 minit pertama tanpa alasan
munasabah, pelajar dikira tidak hadir
He/she will be considered absent if he/she is not on screen or in class for
the first 30 minutes after the studio starts, and without any valid reason
given.

 Untuk kes plagiat, pensyarah berhak memberi markah yang bersesuaian


termasuk 0
If there is ny plagiarism detected, the lecturers have the right to give any
appropriate marks or zero marks.

 Semua tugasan hendaklah dihantar tepat pada waktu yang ditetapkan.


Kegagalan menghantar tugasan pada waktunya mengakibatkan
pengurang markah di mana 10% akan ditolak setiap hari yang lewat
All assignments have to be sent by the dateline given. Failure to do so will
result in the deduction of 10% marks for each day delayed.

Studio Etiquette

 All students are responsible for the studio cleanliness


 No slippers or shorts in the studio (UPM’s rules and regulation)
 No pillows, mattresses seen during studio hours
