    Objective: Identify characteristics of arts and crafts in the specific areas of Luzon
    (Kalinga’s textile, basketry from Cordillera).

    The people of Kalinga are also great weavers. Their cloth weaving and
    basketry are among the finest products in the regions. Igorots are hillside
    dwellers. This condition explains why most of them are farmers and their artistic
    expressions are related to farming such as the tinalik basket made from rattan.
    They are also famous because of their farming on terraces carved out of the
    mountain.

    The Kalinga weavers produce handwoven fabrics for a variety of uses,


    from traditional cloth for clothing and ritual use to commercial fabrics intended
    for making household decor, souvenirs, bags, and accessories. The major
    weaving center in Kalinga is the village of Mabilong in the town of Lubuagan.

    Weaving is a method of textile production in which two distinct sets of yarns


    or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth. Other
    methods are knitting, crocheting, felting, and braiding or plaiting. The
    longitudinal threads are called the warp and the lateral threads are the weft
    or filling.
