Lesson 4 TMIG

The document describes the teaching cycle which includes several stages: identify objectives, plan lessons, implement plans, check for understanding, and reflect on teaching. It discusses how students are involved in the implement and check stages through activities and assessments. The reflect stage requires teachers to evaluate their own performance and identify ways to improve instruction. The most important stage is identified as setting objectives because the other stages depend on clear objectives being established.

Lesson 4.

The teaching cycle

Name: Balisacan, Xyrene Kate O. Date submitted: October 16, 2021

ASSESS
Answer the following questions to verbalize your acquired concepts about the teaching cycle.
1. In what stage/s of the teaching cycle are the students involved? Explain.
The stages of the teaching cycle where the students involve are the: The implement plan and

the Check for understanding. In the implementation of plans, students play a vital role since they

are the focus of the objectives as well as the plans made by the teacher. Meanwhile, in the checking

of understanding, the students become the focus of evaluation. in this teaching cycle, students are

given different types of tests to evaluate or assess to determine whether the teacher successfully

deliver the lesson to his students. It is also a tool for a teacher to gain or discover more effective

teaching strategies.

2. Which stage/s of the teaching cycle requires the teacher to reflect about teaching and learning? Explain.
The stage of teaching cycle where the teacher requires to reflect about his teaching and

learning is the “Reflect on teaching”. In this stage teachers are encouraged to evaluate his/her

performance after teaching a topic. She/he can be guided by the following questions were the

objectives achieved? Were implemented strategies effective? How can instruction be improved? If

the teacher meets the questions then he can say that he successfully taught the lesson well but if he

failed to meet it, he need to refrain, and discover more effective strategies to improve teaching.

CHALLENGE
The next question will challenge your reasoning skill.
What do you think is the most important stage of the learning cycle? Why do you think so?
The most important stage of learning cycle is the identifying objectives because without

specific objectives you can’t plan for teaching activities or strategies to do and without plan you

can’t implement teaching, without implementation of plans you can’t evaluate, you can’t reflect
whether you did you task or not. In other words identifying the objectives is the fundamental steps,

you can’t make other steps possible without taking this step.

HARNESS
Note: This activity will be part of the learning portfolio.

1. Interview two mathematics teachers. Ask them about the stages of the teaching cycle that they follow.
Then, create a diagram illustrating their common answer.

This teaching diagram is based on the teaching cycle being followed by Emelyn Villanueva, a
grade 3 teacher of Doroluman Central Elementary School.

Based on diagram above, Ma’am Villanueva starts her teaching cycle in identifying
objectives based on the students’ performance and the curriculum. After identifying the
curriculum, she makes a lesson plan for an effective and organize teaching. Then, she conducted a
demonstration of plans. She continued the process by giving assessment to the students to
determine their learning’s. After collecting the data of assessment, she evaluates the scores and
determine if she taught the lesson well.

2. How is the diagram you created in #1 similar or different from the cycle that was presented in this
lesson?
Based on the diagram I created, Ma’am Villanueva’s cycle of teaching is almost similar with

the cycle presented in this lesson. They both started in identifying the objectives, followed with the

planning, demonstration, assessment and evaluation. the only difference is the factors that may

affect in determining the objectives of the lesson. In the teaching cycle of Ma’am Emelyn she

highlighted the she based her plans in the students’ performance and curriculum while in the cycle

presented in this lesson, there is no specific source for each steps .
