III. COURSE UNIT : 3 units (2 units lecture and 1 unit laboratory)

V. COURSE PRE-REQUISITE : General Zoology (5 units lecture and laboratory)
General Botany (5 units lecture and laboratory)
VI. COURSE DESCRIPTION :
This is a scientific study of the kinds and diversity of organisms and the relationships among them,determination by means of
comparison of what the unique properties of each species and higher taxa are, properties contain taxon have in common and
biological causes of the difference or shared characteristics, study of variation within taxa.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

Bachelor of Science in Biology who graduated from MHAM College Inc. will:

a. Develop an in-depth understanding of the basic principles governing the science of life;
b. Utilize techniques and procedures relevant to biological research work in laboratory or field settings;
c. Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills;
d. Engage in community oriented activities;
e. Apply basic mathematical and statistical computations and use of appropriate techniques/procedures relevant to biological research work in laboratory or fieldsettings;
f. Extend knowledge and critically assess current views and theories in various areas of biological sciences;
g. Demonstrate interpersonal skills, leadership qualities and ethical practice of the profession;
h. Engage in lifelong activities.

COURSE OUTCOMES

1. Explain the importance of biodiversity to ecosystems or to applied sciences, such as medicine, agriculture, etc.;
2. Provide students’ exposure to representative groups of organisms (plants and animals) their identification, classification and nomenclature;
3. Learn some basic statistical tools in describing morphological diversities among organisms;

VIII. COURSE REQUIREMENT/CLASSROOM POLICIES


1. Quizzes will be administered after the end of the topic of discussion.
2. Seatwork will be done during and after every discussion to facilitate skills in problem-solving.
3. Periodic examinations are to follow the School’s scheduled examination.
4. Allowable absence is 20% of 54 hours. Beyond this required attendance, the student is subject for dropping.
5. Four times tardy (15 minutes after the start of class) is equivalent to one absence.
6. Assignments and homework or library work must be submitted on the deadline assigned by the teacher.
7. Periodic academic performance has to follow the grading system of the college.
8. Research outputs are also required and must be presented as scheduled.
