Priest: Dear brothers and sisters, we gather to celebrate the Holy Eucharist and to witness the Sacrament of Marriage between Mark and Cristina. As their Christian Family, we remind them that they are called to a life of holiness and fidelity as husband and wife. Let us rejoice with them and ask Gods blessing for them and their future children. PENITENTIAL RITE Priest: My brothers and sisters, to prepare ourselves to celebrate these sacred mysteries, let us call to mind our sins. Priest & People: I confess to Almighty God, and to you my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do; and I ask the Blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord our God. Priest: May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. People: Amen. Priest: Lord, have mercy. People: Lord, have mercy. Priest: Christ, have mercy. People: Christ, have mercy. Priest: Lord, have mercy. People: Lord, have mercy.
People: And peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. OPENING PRAYER Priest: Father, you have made the bond of marriage a holy mystery, a symbol of Christs love for his Church. Hear our prayers for Mark and Cristina. With faith in you and in each other they pledge their love today. May their lives always bear witness to the reality of that love. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. People: Amen. Comm.: Please be seated for the Liturgy of the Word. LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING Reader: A reading from the Book of Genesis. Then the Lord God said: It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable partner for him. So the Lord God formed out of the ground various wild animals and various birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each of them would be its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of the air, and all the wild animals; but none proved to be the suitable partner for the man. So the Lord God cast a deep sleep on the man, and while he was asleep, he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. The Lord God then built up into a woman the rib that he had taken from the man. When he brought her to the man, the man said: This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called woman, for out of her man this one has been taken. That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body. Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM Reader: Let our response be: Happy are those who fear the Lord. People: Happy are those who fear the Lord. Reader: Happy are you who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways! For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork; happy shall you be, and favored. People: Happy are those who fear the Lord. Reader: Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the recess of you home; your children like olive plants around your table. People: Happy are those who fear the Lord. Reader: Behold, thus is the man blessed who fears the Lord. The Lord bless you from Zion: may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life. People: Happy are those who fear the Lord. SECOND READING Reader: A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians. Beloved, be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives should be subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of his wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church, he himself the Savior of the body. As the Church is subordinate to Christ, so wives should be subordinate to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the Church and handed himself over for her. Husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For this reason a man shall leave father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and the Church. Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Comm.: Please all stand to honor the Holy Gospel. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
GOSPEL Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Priest: A reading from the holy gospel according to John. People: Glory to you, O Lord. Priest: Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money-changers seated there. He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables, and to those who sold doves he said, "Take these out of here, and stop making my Father's house a marketplace." His disciples recalled the words of scripture, "Zeal for your house will consume me." At this the Jews answered and said to him, "What sign can you show us for doing this?" Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews said, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?" But he was speaking about the temple of his body. Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the scripture and the word Jesus had spoken. Priest: The Gospel of the Lord.
