    (INTRODUCTION)

    Good morning miss, My name is Angella Reece i will be focusing on the topic the

    impact of domestic violence on a child's academic performance and social

    interactions. Under the theme child abuse.

    ( REASONS FOR SELECTION)

    The topic I've chosen to present this morning hits close to home for me,

    My interest in writing about it was sparked by the potential effects it could have on

    a child's mental health and my desire to raise awareness of the psychological harm

    this kind of abuse can cause.

    You may be wondering what is defined as domestic violence?

    Domestic violence is a type of abuse commited by an individual in someones

    domestic circle

    In general we know how Children can act as mirrors, reflecting images of their

    surroundings. They mirror the gestures, language, and habits of the adults in their

    lives,

    Now, in terms of domestic violence The majority of the time, it is difficult to

    determine precisely the cause of a child’s disruptive tendencies.


    However, there is an established correlation between children either being victims

    of or witnessing domestic abuse and a deterioration in their behaviour.

    (Three negative effects of domestic violence on child’s academic

    performance and how they socialize )

    1. Anxiety- Children are likely to remain on edge if they are always

    surrounded by the abuse of one parent by the other. According to a study

    done in an online article titled: “How Witnessing Domestic Violence

    Affects Children” by Elizabeth Plumpter published on November 17,2021.

    2. Low self esteem -Domestic abuse hurt a child’s self-esteem. They may not

    participate in school activities or get good grades, they also may develop

    anti-social traits and get into trouble more often. According to an online

    newspaper titled “ the effects of domestic violence on children” by U.S.

    Department of Health & Human Services. Published on February 15, 2021


    3. Aggressive Behavior- When children witness domestic abuse, they tend

    to act out in reaction to the situation . They may fight, skip school,

    engage in risky sexual activities, or dabble in drugs and alcohol.

    According to the previous istudy done in an online article titled: “How

    To summarize this presentation domestic violence can contribute to child

    developing anxiety, low self esteem and agressive behaviour , children in homes

    with domestic violence wither shouting, fighting or threats can end up physically,

    emotionally and intellectually damaged.
