Chapter III

This chapter outlines the methodology used in the research study. It employed a qualitative research method using a grounded theory research design. The respondents were 20 grade 12 students from the Thomas Aquinas section of Oriental Mindoro National High School. Convenience sampling was used to select the respondents. A questionnaire was used as the research instrument to collect data on the types of gadgets used and their applications for learning. The data was collected through surveys distributed to the student respondents.

Chapter III

Methodology

This chapter presents the research methodology which

includes the research method, research design, respondents of the

study, sampling method, research instrument, and data gathering

procedure.

Research Method

The research study employed a qualitative method. According

to M. Berkwits (1998) Qualitative methods derive from a variety

of disciplines and traditions. They are used to learn directly

from patients and others what is important to them, to provide

the context necessary to understand quantitative findings, and to

identify variables important for future clinical studies.  It was

stated that this research is utilized to understand the

experiences of people in our society. Qualitative method helps

to understand people's beliefs, experiences, attitudes,

behaviour, and interactions. It generates non-numerical data. The

integration of qualitative research into intervention studies is

a research strategy that is gaining increased attention across

disciplines. It aims to discover and elaborate various

motivating factors of grade 12 students from OMNHS to engage in

scholastic performances.
Research Design

A ground theory research design was employed in this

research study. A research approach that aims to sets out to

discover or construct theory from data, systematically obtained

and analysed using comparative analysis according to Tie et al.,

(2019). The research study employed the aforementioned research

design as the study aims to draw theories from the data the

researchers have gathered to the Grade 12 students of Oriental

Mindoro National High School, who uses gadgets as a learning

material in this in-person classes.

Respondents of the study

The researcher chose the grade 12 students enrolled at

Oriental Mindoro National High School during the School Year

2022-2023. From the strand of Humanities and Social Sciences from

the section, Thomas Aquinas which consists of forty-five (63)

students; () female and () male. The total number of students for

grade 12- Thomas Aquinas is sixty-three (63). From this

population size, twenty (20) students were selected as the

respondents of the study.

TOTAL 63 20

Table 1 shows the selected number of Grade 12- Thomas

Aquinas students with a population size of 63. Of the total

population, 20 students were chosen as sample for the study using

convenience sampling. The respondents were chosen through

convenience in the part of the researcher.

Sampling Method

The researchers used the convenience sampling as the

sampling procedure. Convenience sampling involves using

respondents who are "convenient" to the researcher. In conducting

this sampling method or technique there is no steps or pattern in

obtaining the respondents; they could be recruited simple by

asking people in the street, a public building, or a workplace.

Because people are stopped "at random," the concept is frequently

confused with "random sampling" (in other words, haphazardly)

(Galloway, 2005).

Research Instrument

To get appropriate data needed, the researchers will have a

questionnaire with two (2) parts. Part I will ask the type of
gadgets the respondents used. The tool for identifying was made

by the researchers; it will determine if the gadget used is

cellphone, laptop, tablet, or other specific gadgets.

Part II is the tool to determine the uses, importance and

the applications installed that the students use as part of their

learning. This will be the performance evaluation tool we will be

using to identify the different uses of gadgets to the grade 12

students in Oriental Mindoro National High School S.Y. 2022-2023.

Data Gathering Procedure

A letter of request to conduct the study was prepared. The

researcher conducted a questionnaire checklist, validated by the

professor of the subject then the questionnaire checklists are

distributed. The researcher conducts the research in Oriental

Mindoro National High School through survey, because of the

advantages of the survey method... The researcher explains to the

respondents the importance of their response to the study. The

researcher clarifies some terms to the respondents so that the

respondents can answer the questionnaire with full knowledge with

their responsibility as the subject of the study. The researcher

requested the respondents to answer with all honesty. The

researcher uses a convenience sampling as the sampling procedure,

according to Galloway (2005), the sampling units are selected

subjectively by the researcher. In this study since the

researcher goal is to determine the importance of Uses of Gadget

in in-person Classes as perceived by Grade 12 Thomas Aquinas, the

researcher believes that this method is the most appropriate in

choosing the sample of the research. After the respondents

answered the questionnaire, the researcher collected and analyse

the data for interpretation. Based on the data researcher comes

up with conclusion and recommendations for this study.
