In the Crucible with Christ

Quarter 3, Lesson 8
“Seeing the Invisible”

MEMORY VERSE: “By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the
king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.” Hebrews 11:27, NKJV
LESSON STUDY INTRO
 This week’s lesson explores the idea of “seeing” the Lord before
us through all of life’s challenges.
Every child should understand the true force of the will…. The will is the
governing power in the nature of man, the power of decision, or choice. Ed
289.1

1. God is always faithful (Sab, Sun, Thu)

 We tend to doubt God’s goodness when He doesn’t do what we
think is best! (see Qtly, Sun, par 2).
o We need to remember that everything God does is for our good
(see Ps. 84:11; Rom. 8:28-32; Jer. 29:11)
 God has chosen us; He is working out His eternal plan to save us;
He has pledged His only Son as a guarantee to complete it.
 Moses was able to press on through difficulties “as though seeing”
the Lord through it all (Heb. 11:27, NASB).
o In so doing, he kept in view that he was to live, not as a pleaser of
men, but as a servant of God (see Eph. 6:6-7; cf. Col. 3:22-3).
 “Sometimes the crucible is there precisely because we have not
obeyed” (Qtly, Sun, par 4)
 God is still faithful even though we can’t see or perceive Him (see Is.
40:27-31; Job 23:8-10)
o He can’t be wearied or overwhelmed; His understanding and
compassion are infinitely greater than ours; He renews the
strength of all who put their trust in Him.
In the annals of human history the growth of nations, the rise and fall of
empires, appear as dependent on the will and prowess of man. The shaping of
events seems, to a great degree, to be determined by his power, ambition, or
caprice. But in the word of God the curtain is drawn aside, and we behold,
behind, above, and through all the play and counterplay of human interests
and power and passions, the agencies of the all-merciful One, silently,
patiently working out the counsels of His own will. Ed 173.2
2. God always answers correctly (Mon, Wed)
 Many people get discouraged because they don’t always get
what they ask for when they pray, but this doesn’t mean that

their prayers went unanswered.
o We must pray in Jesus’ name (Jn. 14:14; Rom. 8:26-7)
“In My name,” Christ bade His disciples pray…. Through the value of the
sacrifice made for them, they are of value in the Lord's sight…. But to pray in
Christ's name means… that we are to accept His character, manifest His
spirit, and work His works. DA 667, 8

 We must trust that the Lord cares for us, and knows best how to
help, especially in the midst of our trials (see 1 Pet. 5:7)
o Too often we make prayer a last resort
 “I guess all we can do now is pray…”
In every difficulty we are to see a call to prayer. DA 667
When we do not receive the very things we asked for, at the time we ask,
we are still to believe that the Lord hears and that He will answer our
prayers. We are so erring and short-sighted that we sometimes ask for
things that would not be a blessing to us, and our heavenly Father in love
answers our prayers by giving us that which will be for our highest good. SC

 “One reason we hang on to our problems is that we think we can

sort them out better than anyone else” (Qtly, Wed, par 5)

3. God is for us, not against us (Tue)

 The apostles were burdened for believers to grasp “the riches
of the glory” of God’s inheritance for them (Eph. 1:15-23; cf. 1
Pet. 1:1-5)
o “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened” (v. 18)
CONCLUSION
Christ desires nothing so much as to redeem His heritage from the dominion
of Satan. But before we are delivered from Satan's power without, we must
be delivered from his power within. The Lord permits trials in order that we
may be cleansed from earthliness, from selfishness, from harsh, unchristlike
traits of character. He suffers the deep waters of affliction to go over our
souls in order that we may know Him and Jesus Christ whom He has sent, in
order that we may have deep heart longings to be cleansed from
defilement, and may come forth from the trial purer, holier, happier. Often
we enter the furnace of trial with our souls darkened with selfishness; but if
patient under the crucial test, we shall come forth reflecting the divine
character…. There is no danger that the Lord will neglect the prayers of His
