Certificate IV in Computer Systems

By completing this course at South Metropolitan TAFE you'll also gain valuable skills to prepare for external
Cisco CCNA certification.
Dual qualification: a second qualification in Certificate IV in Electronics and Communications may be
readily achieved as many units are common to both qualifications. Ask about this exciting option.

This course is FREE from 1 January 2023. The course fees are 100 per cent
subsidised by the WA State Government for WA residents.

C Grades in Year 11 WACE General C Grades in Year 11 English and Certificate II or
English, and OLNA; or NAPLAN 9 Maths or equivalent Certificate III

Study requirements
Attendance in class
This course is equivalent to 3 to 3.5 days per week when studied across 2 semesters full time.

At-home study
As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 5 hours of additional study
each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research.
You will need to have the basic technical requirements, including Microsoft Office - Word; Excel, for at-
home study. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library
computers during library hours.

Work placement
Work placement is not a requirement of this course.

What you need for your first day of class


On your first day you should bring your SM TAFE confirmation enrolment receipt, your student ID,
stationery (pen, pencil, exercise book, eraser, ruler and calculator) and wear enclosed footwear.
In addition, you are required to wear the following PPE for various laboratories and workshops:

full sleeve shirt


closed shoes
full length pants
safety glasses (will be provided by SM TAFEs Applied Engineering)
