Mortality is the number of deaths that occur


in a population.
Specific Mortality Rate (SMR)

- Shows rate of dying in a specific population group


- It can be calculated as:

Prevalence is the total number of existing cases of
disease at a particular point in time.

Incidence on the other hand, it measures the number of


new cases, episodes, or events occurring over a
specified period, commonly a year within a specified
population at risk.

For example, a person who is newly diagnosed with


Malaria is an incident case, whereas a person who has
had Malaria for 8 months is a prevalent case.

Generally, said cases are communicable than inherited


and injuries.
