The T60 relay can be used for autotransformer protection with some configuration rules: 1. The winding connections must be entered as wye and the angle as 0 degrees. 2. The winding phase voltages must be the same. 3. The rated MVA setting is the same as for conventional transformers. The T60 performs CT ratio correction to accommodate different CT ratios on the transformer terminals and presents exact replicas of the primary currents to the relay for zero-sequence differential protection.

QUESTION: Can I use the T60 relay for Autotransformer protection, are there any rules

that to be followed?

Yes, all the T60 features can accommodate autotransformer protection and some
windings configuration rules are applicable to ensure proper operation of the Percent
Differential Protection element.

1. The winding type connections must be entered as “Wye”.

2. Angle WRT (With Respect To) must be entered as “0”.
3. The winding phase voltages (kV) for each winding should be the same.
4. The rated winding MVA setting is the same as for conventional transformers.

The T60 performs CT mismatch correction to accommodate different CT ratios on the

autotransformer terminals. Exact replicas of the autotransformer primary currents are
presented to the relay.

Example;
672 MVA autotransformer, ratio of 500kV/230kV, with CT ratios as shown in the
diagram above: CT1=1000:5, CT2=2000:5, CT3=2500:5

During normal load condition the primary currents sum to zero,

i1 + i 2 + i3 = 0

When the rules mention above are followed, the T60 scales the secondary currents from
the different CT internally, thus resulting in zero differential current under normal
conditions. The secondary compensated differential-, and restraint-currents currents are:
v v v
Id = i1sec + i 2 sec + i3sec = 0 and Ir = max( abs (i1sec , i 2 sec , i3sec ))
