MODULE 2: ASSIGNMENT

Task 1: Answer the following questions:

1. Cite personal incidents / moments in your life that you feel you have become:
a. Maka-Diyos
I felt I'm "Maka-Diyos", when I go back to Him again after I turn my back to
Him and got lost for so long. Since the pandemic happened, I grab that
opportunity to repent for my sins, submit myself and accept Him in my life
again. Moreover, I teach the lessons that I learned from His teachings to my
friends, thus they can able to feel His grace and be blessed.

b. Makatao
Whenever I extend my help to my friends, the feeling that it can give to my
being is beyond compare. It fulfills my being's satisfaction. It make my heart
flutter whenever I help them. And their gratitude towards me is enough for
me as an exchange of the help that I extend to them. Because for me,
helping someone is my embodiment of giving love.

c. Makakalikasan
Joining the community or school activities about the environment made me
feel that I'm a Mother-Earth saver in just my simple throwing of garbage to
its proper designation and conserving water.

d. Makabansa/makabayan
Whenever I heard our National Anthem being played, without further ado, I
will immediately stop whatever I'm doing and I stand up and sing along
with the song to pay respect to our national flag and same as to our
national anthem.

1.2. Explain the details. What have you learned and realized out from that
experience?
I realized that we should do those things just because we are waiting for return or
because we are told to do it. As a Filipino, it is our obligation to do our role or
duty for our country. It's a must, no one is exempted. And we should also aware
in our duties as good citizen of the Philippines. Because if everyone will become
like that, our country could have its orderliness and peace.

3. In your own ways, how can you contribute in the protection of the environment
from its threats?
I can reduce, reuse, and recycle materials. The simple act of reusing things I already
have instead of buying new things would not only save the environment from wasteful
consumerism, but also save my money.I can also be mindful of the way I use resources.

Task 2: Instructions:
1. Identify at least five (5) strengths of Filipino character that you think you
possess. Why do you say so?

Joy and Humor

I have a cheertul and fun-loving approach to life and its ups and downs.
Laughing at myself and the mess I are in is an important coping mechanism.
Playful, sometimes, disrespectful, I laugh at those I love and at those I hate and I make
jokes about my good fortune and bad.

Faith and religiosity

I have deep faith in God.
I innate religiosity enables me to comprehend and genuinely accept reality in the
context of God's will and plan.
Religious expressions is very tangible

Ability to survive
I do with what is available in the environment.
It is manifested in the millions of Filipinos who bravely live through the harshest
economic and social circumstances

Flexibility, adaptability and creativity

I can adjust and to adapt to circumstances and the surrounding environment, both
physical and social; adjusts to whatever happens even in unplanned or anticipated
events.
I possess a tolerance for ambiguity that enables me to remain unfazed by uncertainly
or lack of information.

Family oriented
My source of personal identity, emotional and material support and
my main commitment and responsibility
I sense of family results in a feeling of belongingness and rooledness in a basic sense of
security

2. Identify at least five (5) weaknesses of Filipino character that you think you
possess. What are the steps do you take to change these weaknesses into
strength?

Family ties. In the Philippines there is a stronger tradition of supporting the family.
This can be good if all of the family strive to make things good or life better for the
family as a whole but I see some families where one person’s good fortune is
automatically a good enough reason for others not to bother or try as hard. This is
unfair as the one who works hard then ends up supporting the lazy ones and no
gain is made. Another scenario is the sister who studies hoping for a brighter future
but as she has no children she is expected to give up her studies to look after the
elderly parents and perhaps several of the other sisters children. You also get the
family member who has married someone with money who is then expected and
pressurized into asking for handouts from the spouse for their relatives.

Religion. There is nothing wrong with being religious but if your religion is expecting
you to give them as much money as possible so that they can expand their property
portfolio rather than using it for the good of the people, the sick and the needy
then you have to ask what the curators of that religion really stand for.

Pinoy pride. Again, being proud and loyal is a good thing, but if it means closing
your eyes and ears to the injustices and wrongdoings that are going on around you
then it is not a good thing.
Obedience. Some may think that being obedient is a good thing but if bullying and
or exploitation are taking place blind obedience works in the abuser’s favour and
prevents change. If people do not believe that they are safe expressing an opinion
in case they are punished they become apathetic and indifferent. In a business
place this “Tall poppy syndrome” stifles personal responsibility, thinking, creativity
and learning.

Always looking for the easy way. We always look for the easy way in doing things. We
have a word for it: “diskarte”. It has no direct translation in English, however the closest
is probably “strategy”. I believe it has something to do with our “nice climate” here in
the Philippines where you can start sweating even while sitting or lying down. The
average 34–35C temperature tends to make you feel tired after a minimal effort. That’s
why we Filipinos tend to do things the easy way and save energy for other tasks.
However, doing things the easy way doesn’t mean being efficient. Sometimes, we do
things in a way that takes a longer time to finish simply because we are used to it and it
makes things easy for us. We tend to prefer to do things manually than use the
technology available to us because most people still think that hard work will lead to
success. Also, there are people that rely on others to survive instead of relying on
themselves. These people are the ones that are usually unemployed because they are
too lazy to find a job or too lazy to last long on a job. So they live with relatives, parents,
or grandparents and usually rely on them for money, food, and other basic needs.
