ACTIVITY 4.
2: DETECTING FAKE NEWS ONLINE
https://adobochronicles.com/ THE ADOBO CHRONICLES is your source of up-to-
date, unbelievable news. Everything you read on this site is based on fact, except for the lies.
https://professionalheckler.com Having over 100,000 followers on Twitter,
Professional Heckler is quite a popular blogger who is recognized for his humour blog that contains stories about the latest trends in social media. Although it’s more of a blog than a satirical website, he has satirical posts too, tagged as satire which are mostly formatted as news, but are actually lampoons. http://mosquitopress.tumblr.com/ Yet another satirical website is Mosquito Press. By how Mosquito Press makes their articles, it’s almost possible to believe that they are credible, with direct quotes that make the articles believable. Also, Mosquito Press is a term referring to journalism during the Martial Law. Read the blog for your daily dose of humour, but be sure not to rely on this site for facts.
https://agilanews.wordpress.com As soon as you reach Agila News’ website you know
that this is not something you should take seriously. The phrase “we won’t let the facts get in the way of a good story” automatically presupposes that this is a satirical website that produces humorous content that has nothing to do with facts. It’s somehow informative and funny as it tackles pressing issues, but then again according to the website itself, “if you think any of the news articles are true, you should get yourself checked.” https://sowhatsnews.wordpress.com So, What’s News? Is a satirical and fictional website as posted on their page. Its main purpose is to create content that will make readers be interested in their satirical and sarcastic way of presenting news. It’s supposed to be a different take on reading news that comes from mainstream news organizations. For a fun read, it’s worth a visit but if you’re looking for facts, it’s not the place to be.
