IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing or Activity: Plotting the points on the graph
presenting the new Note to the Teacher:
lesson  Divide the class into groups of five.
 Distribute geoboard and rubber bands to the group
 Let them create a cartesian plane on the geoboard
 Flash the points and let them plot it on the cartesian
plane and put markers using round colored papers
 Process all groups’ answers.

B. Establishing a Motive Questions:

purpose for the lesson 1. How do you plot the points on your cartesian plane?
( By recalling the assigned quadrants for the points)

2. In what quadrant can you locate the points containing

coordinates that are all positive? (Ans : 1st quadrant).

3. In what quadrant can you locate the points containing

coordinates that are all negative? (Ans : 3rd quadrant)

4. If the x – coordinate is negative and the y-coordinate is

positive, in what quadrant can you locate the points?
(Ans: 2nd quadrant)

5. If the x – coordinate is positive and the y – coordinate

is negative, in what quadrant can we locate the points?
(Ans: 4th quadrant)

6. If the x – coordinate is zero and y-coordinate is greater

than or less than zero, where can you locate the points?
( along the y – axis)

7. If the x-coordinate is greater than or less than zero and

y-coordinate is less than zero, where can you locate the
points? (Ans : along the x – axis)

8. How many points can be used to create a line? (Ans:

two)

C. Presenting examples ACTIVITY 2: Graphing linear equations

of the new lesson
1. Construct the graph of the linear equations that
passes through the points ( 1, 2 ) and ( - 3, 4 )

2. Construct the graph of the points given x –

intercept = -2 and y – intercept = 4.

2. Construct the graph of the linear equation

2x – y = 5 using two points.

Solution:
Find first two points by assigning two values of x to
solve the values of y. For example, x = 1 and x = 2. So,
when x = 1 when x = 2
2 ( 1) – y = 5 2(2)–y = 5
2 -y=5 4 - y = 5
-y=5–2 -y = 5-4
-1 ( -y ) = ( 3 ) -1 -1 (- y ) = ( 1 ) -1
y= -3 y = -1
So the points are ( 1, - 3) and ( 2, -1 ) and the graph
is shown below:

D. Discussing new In graphing linear equations given two points, locate the
concepts and two points in the quadrant where they are located then
practicing new skills connect the two points. The line obtained is the graph of
#1 the linear equations.

E. Discussing new
concepts and  In graphing the linear equation given the equation,
practicing new skills identify two points then plot the points on the
#2 cartesian plane then connect the points to form the
line

F. Developing Mastery Construct the graph of y = 2x -6. ( Note: In finding the

points, answer may vary)

(Ans: The graph is shown below)

G. Finding practical Problem :

applications of Mike wants to bake cake in oven for Christmas eve. He
observed the following readings : Temperature of oven was
concepts and skills in 180∘∘F after 2 minutes and its temperature was 290∘∘F after 4
daily living minutes. Show the graph of the given problem.

H. Making Guide Questions for Generalization:

Generalizations and
abstractions about  How do you graph the linear equations given two
the lesson points? ( Ans: Locate the quadrants of the points then
connect the two points?
 How do you graph linear equations using two points?
( Ans: Find the two points by assigning values of x.
Evaluate the equation by substituting the value of x
and solve for the values of y. Plot the points then
connect)
I. Evaluating learning Note. Use one whole sheet of graphing paper.

1. Plot the graph of the linear equation given the

following points.
a) ( 1, -7 ) and ( 4, -1 )
1 −1 3 1

Content: Graphing Linear Equations Using Two Points

DISCUSSIONS:

One of the methods used in graphing linear equation is using two

points. In Geometry, two points determine a line. Since the graph of the
linear equation is a line thus two points are enough to draw the graph of
linear equations
