influenced by identity and culture. Approaches to study in the course are meant to be wide ranging and can
include literary theory, sociolinguistics, media studies and critical discourse analysis among others.

Virtual Back to School Night materials will be released on 9/14/2022 at 6:30pm.

GRADES

Course Gradebook Format:

● This course will utilize a traditional gradebook setup.
● Traditional: A traditional gradebook is not cumulative. The scores earned during the quarter comprise the
quarterly grade. The final grade is an average of the quarter grades. Parents and students should always
view the grade in StudentVue and ParentVue as the current quarter grade.

● 100 point grading scale: Grades will be entered into the gradebook as NUMBER grades. The gradebook will
calculate the student’s grade based on the FCPS grading scale:
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/grading-and-reporting/secondary/grading-scale .

○ Gradebook will show NTI (earning a 50) if a student fails to complete work or turn in a reasonable
attempt. A 50 is the lowest possible grade on the 100 pt scale.

○ Gradebook will show MGA (earning a 56.5) if student makes a reasonable attempt but is not
proficient

○ Gradebook will show ABS (no effect on grade) if student did not turn in work due to an absence,
until it is turned in.

● SIS is the gradebook of record. The grades shown in Schoology are for individual assignments/assessments
and do not represent the students overall grade.

Course Grading Categories & Weights:

assigned to the final grade for purposes of calculating GPA.  For example, a final grade of B in this course shall receive
