Kavita, the head girl, shares her thoughts on overcoming the fear of math. She notes that while math includes many subdisciplines, not everyone can be good at all of them. The main problem is that concepts taught in school often have little real-life application. This, coupled with being told math is hard, leads to feelings of uncertainty. She recommends practicing problems until it becomes routine, having a positive outlook, and putting in extra effort to boost confidence and performance in math.

Once a great philosopher Rick Bayan , defined
maths anxiety as an intense lifelong fear of two
train approaching each other at speeds of 60 and 80MPH. Good morning to one and all present here. Today I Kavita , your head girl would like to share my thoughts regarding the fear of maths and the ways to overcome it. Mathematics……Mathematics surrounds huge number of subdisciplines. Just like no one can be good at all of them in same way , no one can be bad at all of them. What connects them is the mathematical rigor, mathematical methods and the mathematical language. The main problem behind understanding and learning maths is that half of the concepts that are taught in schools have very less chance of being applied in real life scenarios. On one hand, math teaches us how to handle our money, how to tell time, and everything that is consider necessary for a normal day to day life and on the other hand, math expects us to learn the complicated methods of algebra and trigonometry which has no direct method of application in our daily life. As children most of us have definitely heard the phrase that maths is a difficult subject to learn and that is the first mistake that we are committing while learning the subject. Already having a preconception about the subject gives birth to feelings of uncertainty inside us. And so even the easiest concepts seem to be difficult. Practice, practice, practice, and then practice some more. While taking a math class, this can really help get over that anxiety you have about that upcoming test . Always remember the 5 P's: "Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance". Let that be your mantra. Do those practice problems till they're muscle memory and I guarantee that the anxiety will fade substantially and you will perform better in tests.
One of the main point to be noted here is that
one should be positive. I'm not good in maths; I am stupid'. Such thoughts can hurt your self- esteem and confidence. Everyone has different abilities and he/or she should be proud of them. Some extra effort will certainly help do well in the subject. Such a positive outlook will boost your confidence and help you focus and perform better. To conclude I would like to say that -Mathematics, even though it might seem like not everyone’s cup of tea, but it can be comprehensible to the majority of us with the right guidance and by taking a few steps in letting go of the fears on our own. So this concludes the focus of todays discussion. Thankyou for being here today.
