INTRODUCTION
THE STEM SCHOOL is based on the idea of educating
students in four specific disciplines--Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics--in an integrated,
interdisciplinary approach to learning that provides
hands-on and relevant learning experiences for students.

STEM activities help students use skills and learning

from all four disciplines to solve problems in a real world
context. STEM is predominantly scientific while the
Design and Engineering components are the practical
application of Science.

What makes STEM truly special is the fact that it does not
propagate the study of the four disciplines in isolation,
but it’s all about understanding the correlation between
various disciplines and focusing on their practical
application. A person who is well versed in STEM
stands a better chance of getting a job in industries like
engineering, automation, programming, software etc.

STEM jobs are growing at a faster rate than non-STEM

jobs and many of our current primary students will
work in STEM jobs not even imagined today. The many
benefits of a STEM education will be obvious regardless
of the future career a student chooses.

THE STEM SCHOOLS aim to share with its business

partners the best practices and expertise to give them
an unparalleled edge over all others. THE STEM SCHOOL
understands the many stages of setting up and running
a school and have developed a system to facilitate The
STEM SCHOOL associates at every step.

By joining the THE STEM SCHOOLS network, the

business partners can be assured that they have made
the right choice and that their business is secure.

VISION STATEMENT
Our vision underpins our teaching and learning.
Through the promotion of positive learning
attitudes and a growth mindset. We strive to
develop skills, ambition, confidence, care, respect
and tolerance in our students in order to prepare
and enable them to become lifelong learners, to
take up active roles in their communities, shaping
the future and becoming well rounded citizens.

MISSION STATEMENT
Our vision and mission provide us with our overall
direction. They are fundamental in everything we
do: from how we teach, to how we learn, to how we
develop teaching and learning in the classroom.
The mission of THE STEM Schools is to provide
a safe and healthy learning environment
where our students and faculty feel welcomed,
appreciated, respected and trusted. We hope
to promote academic excellence by providing a
rich and progressive technological environment
to explore new horizons beyond the traditional
modes of schooling. Technology will enable
students to be active participants in their own
learning, and will help develop a strong sense of
responsibility towards themselves, each other and
the community.

MESSAGE FROM THE
FOUNDERS
Pakistan will soon be the 5th largest country by population, but it
will need to become much more competitive in the world of Science,
Technology, Arts, Engineering, and Mathematics to even come close
to the 5th place in education and claim its rightful place in the world
community. For the country to rise to new heights, it needs to raise a
workforce that is a notch above and that takes a generation to build.
That workforce comes from the masses, not the few, and for that to
happen we need to change the narrative about what that education
looks like.

For the next generation, a good education is no longer about

memorization, but all about teaching one to think and solve problems
since they will be facing challenges that have never been faced
before – global water shortages, climate change, overpopulation,
and food scarcity. So we started by asking questions about how we
want to serve the country, parents, teachers and most importantly
– the students. Can we give a premium education experience at an
affordable price? Can we make the parents believe that their child’s
foundation is being built so it can withstand anything the world
throws at them? Can we make the teachers believe that they can
deliver a great quality experience? Can we have the students wonder
about what they will learn next? Can we motivate teachers and make
this a place where everyone wants to teach?

For THE STEM Schools, the answer was “we must” no matter how
hard it is. We believe it is our duty and our calling to make sure we
leave the next generation better off than the previous one.

Hence, the purpose behind initiating TSS was to provide quality

education at an affordable fee to every child in Pakistan.

THE STEM SCHOOL FRANCHISE INFORMATION GUIDE 5

WHAT IS STEM?
STEM is an acronym for the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics. In today’s competitive economy, more and more employers are
searching for high-skilled workers with STEM-related skills: problem-solving,
critical thinking, innovation, multi-tasking, and the ability to work collaboratively
with a diverse group of colleagues.

WHAT IS STEM EDUCATION AND WHY

IS IT IMPORTANT?
The NYC Department of Education describes STEM education as a methodology
that “involves the study of Science and Mathematics, and the meaningful
integration of Technology and Engineering to provide opportunities for
innovative problem-solving. Using the Engineering design process, students
identify problems, develop and test possible solutions, and ultimately reach a
solution.”

Younger students need experiences with Engineering and Technology if

they’re going to succeed in our 21st-century world — a world that increasingly
depends on these disciplines. The more we watch children, the more we realize
that they have a natural knack for Engineering but our traditional rigid Maths
and Language curricula actually dampens their ability and creativity, while the
modern world requires problem-solving skills as a basic literacy.

To tackle engineering e.g. students may read about a native Iranian girl, Fatima,
who is snapping pictures near her tribal home when she discovers oil on
the surface of a close by river. Fatima explores the extent of damage to the
ecosystem on which her community depends, seeing the far reaching social
and environmental effects of water pollution. These small activities have a far
reaching impact where students develop critical thinking skills.

Problem solving skills require concrete examples with hands on solutions

because this means far more to children than abstract concepts like fractions,
decimals, etc. We aim to develop students thinking creatively, critically and
collaboratively so that they will be better prepared for life in general.

By incorporating STEM education into the regular curriculum, elementary

schools are in the perfect position to foster, both in girls and boys, at a young
age, an interest in these subjects that continues through to high school, college,
and the workplace.

PARTNERING WITH TSS
THE STEM SCHOOLS aim to share with its business partners the best practices
and expertise to give them an unparalleled edge over all others. THE STEM
SCHOOL knows many stages of setting up and running a school and have
developed a system to facilitate The STEM SCHOOL associates at every step.
By joining the THE STEM SCHOOLS network, the business partners can be
assured that they have made the right choice and that their business is secure.

FRANCHISEE SUPPORT
The education sector is growing exponentially with schools opening up every
year to meet the demand. But while this makes it worthwhile to start an
education franchise, without the right tools and guidance, it will be difficult to
succeed - let alone survive.

TSS is very aware of this fact and will be with you at every step.

The majority of schools fail within the first year because the teething problems
faced by the teaching and administration staff leave a bad impression on the
parents, students and teachers alike. This not only impacts new admissions, but
also accelerates withdrawals.

Having us by your side means that your school will skip this phase and transition
into a smooth, fully functionally learning centre.

WHAT WILL WE DO FOR YOU?

Academic Support
The strength of a STEM school is the execution of its curriculum. A poorly
executed curriculum can quickly turn a creative lesson into a chaotic one.

Academic Manual
The Academic manual will detail the guidelines that will define the school and
classroom management practices. It will contain:

• Policies and procedures

• Regulations and schedules
• Curriculum guidelines and aims
• Classroom protocol
• Book lists
• Scheme of works
• Administration resources

Admission tests, academic/ activity & management calendars & guidelines,
thematic/daily lesson plans, curriculum resource & assessment packs, summer
& winter packs, date sheet, exam syllabus, mid-year & end of year examination
