SAP Infotype

A personal number is used in SAP to identify employee data and is comprised of up to eight digits. Infotypes group related employee data fields and have start and end dates to define information validity. Infotypes are coded by category like personal administration or time management. Time constraints ensure required data is available and define if overlapping records are allowed. Infotypes have constraints that determine if one or multiple valid records can exist simultaneously. Personal development involves identifying employee qualifications, determining job requirements, and managing performance and succession planning.

HCM Personal number

A personal number is used in SAP as central identifier for an employee. Personal number can comprise
upto eight digits and be assigned either by the system or manually. All the employee data available in the
system are identified on the basic of personal number.

INFOTYPES: The term “Infotype” is unique to the SAP HCM module and denotes information types.
It is grouping of related data fields used to store employee data. Every Infotype has a start date and end
date to define the validity of information. Some Infotype are further split into sub types.

Some SAP HR infotype coding convention:

 0000-0999-personal administration
 1000-1999-organizational management
 2000-2999-Time management
 4000-4999-Applicant data
 9000-9999-customer specification system

E.g., 0000- Action – (Hiring, Promotion, transfer etc.)

0001- Organizational Assignment

0002- Personal data

0006- Address

0007- Work time

0008- Basic pay

0009- Bank details

0022- Education

Example of subtype

2001 -absence

0100 0220 0601

Vacation health Resort personal leave

Time constraints Of INFOTYPE

Time constraints guarantee the exact data that is required by a system to process employee data and run
payroll for an employee Time constraint are used define the following:

-whether an Infotype record must exist for an employee in the system.

-whether further record of the same Infotype exist or not.

-Whether this record can overlap in the validity period.

Structure of INFOTYPE Constraints:

I. Time constraint 1: For an entire time, the employee work at the enterprise, exact one validit info
type record must exist.
II. Time constraint 2: No more than one valid record can exist at any one time.
III. Time constraint 3: Any number of valid records can exist at any one time. The individual record
donot conflict with each other.

Time Constraint A
Infortypes with time constraint A must have no more than one record. The validity period ranges from Jan
01, 1800, to dec 31 9999. This validity period cannot be further subdivided. Info types with time
Constraint A CANNOT BE DELETED.

Time Constraint B
Infortypes with time constraint B must have no more than one record. The validity period ranges from Jan
01, 1800, to dec 31 9999. This validity period cannot be further subdivided. Info types with time
Constraint B CANNOT BE DELETED.

Time Constraint T
Infotype records with time constraint T depend on the subtype. E.g., Address depending on subtype.

Time Constraint Z
Timme constraint Z is related to entering working and absence time.

Maintenance of infotypes:

Fast entry

Single Infotype Maintenance
