(First Quarter-Week 1)
Day: 1 Date: August 22, 2022
Learning Competency The learner illustrates well-defined sets, subsets, universal Code:
/ies: sets, null set, cardinality of sets, union and intersection of
sets and the difference of two sets.
1.Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
Knowledge: 1. define a set, an element of a set, a proper subset, a universal set, a null set,
and the cardinality of set
Skills: 2. illustrate a set, an element of a set, a proper subset, a universal set, a null set,
and the cardinality of set
Attitudes: 3. display alertness in performing different activities
Values: 4. show collaborative spirit in sharing ideas with peers
2. Content/Topic Sets
3.Learning Curriculum Guide, Teacher’s Guide, Math Learner’s Material, Q1 SLM 1: Introduction

4.Procedures (indicate the steps you will undertake to teach the lesson and indicate the no. of minutes each step
will consume)
Puzzle: Guess the Word!
4. 1 Engage Arrange the jumbled letters and form the correct word that corresponds to the
definition at the right. Let them write their answer on their notebook.
_5 minutes
1. TES a well-defined group
2. TNEMLEE a member of any set
3. TESUBS part of any set
4. ULLN TES an empty set
5. UNALIVERS a set that contains all objects under consideration
4.2 Explore Activity 1:
Group the students into 4 groups. Study the illustrations below. Classify them
10 minutes according to its common characteristics and uses. Let them write their answers on a
manila paper.
Ask a volunteer to show his answer on the board. Guide them to get the correct
answer.
4.3 Explain Ask the following questions:
1. How many groups are there?
20 minutes 2. Does each object belong to a group?
3. Is there an object that belongs to more than one group? Which one?
4. How do you name the group?
These groups are known as sets.
Let the students read and understand the definition of sets on the Q1 SLM 1
pages 1-2. Guide them to understand the different terms associated with sets.
4.4 Elaborate Emphasize the following concepts:
_10_ minutes Set is a well-defined group of objects, called elements that share a common
characteristic.
Subset is a part of any set.
Proper subset is a set that does not contain all elements of a set.
Universal set is the set that contains all objects under consideration.
Null sets an empty set. It is a subset of any set.
Cardinality of set is the number of elements contained in a set
Use visual representations to elaborate the terms related to sets.
4.5 Evaluate A. Directions: Identify the following statements if its a set or not. Write the word S if it
is a well-defined group and NS if it is not.
