Digital natives are people born during or after the digital era who have grown up with technology, while digital immigrants are people born before the digital era who have had to adapt to new technologies. Key differences are that natives prefer constant connectivity, multitasking, and online socializing, while immigrants prefer more formal communication methods like phone calls and are still adapting to technologies. The terms were coined by Marc Prensky to describe differences in how people born before and after the digital era approach and understand technology.
