Intro to Philosophy
Task
Hopefully, this week has increased your worldview about Philosophy in your life.
For this week’s journal, please share what the most interesting part (lesson/discussion) this
week was to you. How did that reading, or experience of thinking about it, change your
perception of knowledge and truth around you? Consider the philosophers discussed this unit
and please explain how you thought before, and how the new viewpoint changed that old
thinking into something new.
Response
This week, I have had the opportunity to learn more about a very interesting Philosopher to
include; Francis – Marie Arouet of whom is also known as Voltaire. He displayed his
intelligence exceptionally with the statements he made as well as how he saw the world. His
vision of how he saw the world is also interesting. Additionally, Learning about Voltaire, was
by far the most pleasing piece in this week’s reading and lesson that we had. I was rather
taken a back at the life he lived and how he became a Philosopher although he was faced with
so many challenges. He was also able to put his humour and awareness to use in order to
create a positive change in the world. Likewise, he was able to serve as a role model to the
world and attempted to make the world a better place. (n.d)
Voltaire’s approach on religion was also extraordinary as he utilized his intelligence to see
things from a different point of view, For Instance, he was able to view the Roman Catholic
religion as well as the French Government of where he was able to provide his critic
comment. I found this rather interesting as this was a great way to get persons to see the
importance of religion and how it can be seen as both as good and bad. Likewise, it was an
opportunity to portray how Voltaire thoughts were as it pertains to religion in general as well
as Catholic.
The most important area that I came across this week was that the world can be such of a
different place if we want it to be. It is up to us to work on how we want the world to be.
Similarly, I think that learning about other cultures, religion and other important aspects in
the world is good. This course has allowed me to learn so much within these few weeks. I got
to learn quite a bit about several great philosophers and how they all viewed the world
differently trying to change it. Philosopher’s in general pays a special role in the world.
