Activity V Curve Art

The document provides instructions for an activity to review graphs of curves that can be applied to integration. Students are asked to draw figures of a line, parabola, and ellipse using the slope-intercept form of a line and standard equations of parabolas and ellipses. They then write the equation below each curve and use color to enhance the activity. The conclusion asks students to state properties of lines, parabolas, and ellipses like their equations based on orientation and axis of major axis. The goal is to recall curve graphs and equations in order to apply them to integration problems.

Activity V Curve Art(Art Integration in Mathematics)

OBJECTIVE : To recall the graphs of Curves to be able to apply them in Application of integration.

MATERIAL REQUIRED ; Maths Activity file , colours, geometry box.

PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE:

Slope Intercept form of the equation of a line

The slope-intercept form of the equation of a straight line is called the slope-intercept form because
it contains information about these two properties. The equation of a straight line Any equation of
the form y = mx + c.

The slope and intercept of a straight line In the equation y = mx + c the value of m is called the slope,
(or gradient), of the line. It can be positive, negative or zero.

The value of c is called the vertical intercept of the line. It is the value of y when x = 0. When drawing
a line, c gives the position where the line cuts the vertical axis.

Equation of Parabola
The standard equation of a regular parabola with vertex at the origin is y 2 = 4ax.
Equation of Ellipse :

The standard equation of a regular parabola with vertex at the origin is
