B. Assertion- Reason Type Questions (Carry one mark each)
Following questions are Assertion - Reasoning based questions. These consist of two statements –
Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer these questions selecting the appropriate option given below:
(a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A
(b) Both A and R are true, and R is not the correct explanation of A
(c) A is true but R is false
(d) A is False but R is true
1. Assertion (A): Asexual reproduction is a primitive type of reproduction.
Reason (R): Asexual reproduction involves only mitotic cell division.
2. Assertion (A): Spores are unicellular bodies.
Reason (R): The parent body simply breaks up into smaller pieces on maturation.
3. Assertion (A): Clones are offspring of an organism formed by asexual reproduction.
Reason (R): Clones have exact copies of DNA as their parent.
4. Assertion (A): Pollen grains from the carpel stick to the stigma of stamen.
Reason (R): The fertilized egg cells grow inside the ovules and become seeds.
1. (a) Draw a diagram illustrating fertilisation in a flowering plant and label on it: male germ cell,
ovary, female germ cell and pollen grain.
(b) Distinguish between self-pollination and cross pollination.
2. (a) Draw a diagram of the longitudinal section of a flower and label on it sepal, petal, ovary and
stigma.
(b) Write the names of male and female reproductive parts of a flower.
3. State in brief the changes that take place in a fertilised egg(zygote) till birth of the child in the human
female reproductive system. What happens to the egg when it is not fertilised?
2
E. Case Study Based Questions (carry 4 marks)
1. The male reproductive system consists of portions which produce the germ-cells and other
portions that deliver the germ-cells to the site of fertilisation. Testes are located outside the
abdominal cavity in scrotum. It also has a role of secretion of male sex hormone which brings
changes in appearance seen in boys at the time of puberty. Vas deferens unites with a tube
coming from urinary bladder. Prostate gland and seminal vesicles are also present in this
system.
