1.0 INTRODUCTION
Operating system is one of the most things that someone need to gain more
knowledge about it. An operating system (OS) is a piece of software that serves as a bridge
between computer hardware and the user. To execute other applications, every computer
system must have at least one operating system. Browsers, MS Office, Notepad Games, and
other applications require an environment to execute and fulfil their functions.
The operating system enables you to communicate with the computer even if you do
not understand its language. It is impossible for a user to utilise a computer or mobile device
without an operating system.

2.0 OBJECTIVE
This task has an objective to summarize and explain more about advantages or others
use of an operating system.

3.0 OPERATING SYSTEM FUNCTION

An operating system delivers a few basic functions. It provides a user interface that
allows people to interact with application programmes and computer hardware. There are two
basic types of user interfaces. The first is the command line interface (CLI), and the second is
the graphical user interface (GUI). This pair's job is to start and manage application
execution, as well as to identify and expose system hardware resources to those applications.
The Command Line Interface (CLI) allows users to enter data and commands using the
keyboard. This function will give a text-based interface in which users will enter particular
instructions, parameters, and arguments relating to certain tasks using the standard keyboard.
A command-line processor is the application that handles the interface. For interactive access
to operating system functions or services, operating systems implement a command-line
interface in a shell. Beginning in the mid-1960s and lasting into the 1980s, command line
interfaces were widely utilised.

Next the Graphical User Interface, this is the most frequently used by casual or end
users that are primarily interested in manipulating files and applications, such as double-
clicking a file icon to open the file in its default application. This is a form of user interface
that allows users to interact with electronic devices through graphical icons and audio indicator
such as primary notation.

Example of Graphical User Interface

Therefore, the function of operating system is work as running application. Operating

system load and run applications such as word processors and spreadsheets. Most operating
system support multitasking such as the ability to switch between different application stored
in memory. For example, with multitasking you could have Word and Excel running at the
same time.

4.0 Features of Operating System

There is a wide range of notable features in the operating system which is developing
day by day. One of the features of operating system is work as a booting. Booting is for starting
or restarting the computer. There are two ways to boot a computer. A warm boot is occurring
when the computer is already on and you restart it without turning off the power. Others ways
to boot a computer is called as a cold boot. This way worked when you starting a computer that
has been turned off.
Moreover, the operating system can help to protect the information and confidential
data that stored in the system. Its also block the system by giving strong authorized keys to the
user securing the system from viruses’ attack. The operating system acts as supervisor mode
and gives the system a strongly protected.

Embedded Operating Stand-alone Operating Network Operating

System (RTOS) System System (linked computer)
• Smartphone • Also called desktop • Window server,
• Smartwatches operating system Linux, Unix
• Video game systems • Operating system
stored on network
server which
coordinates all
communication

6.0 Difference Between Windows, Linux and Mac OS

Specification Window Linux Mac OS
Price Windows are less It does not have any Apple devices are
expensive charges. It’s totally expensive
free
Security There are many types There is a smaller There are no viruses
of viruses in window number of viruses in in Mac OS because
OS because of a large Linux compare to you can install them
amount of market windows because in Apple Devices
share Linux is an open- only
source OS
Compatibility Anyone can install Linux is open-source Many software is not
any type of game on software so you can compatible with
Windows Pc is program the software MAC OS so you feel
compatible with all that you want limited on Mac OS
types of software and
games
Reliability A window is reliable Linux is not a Mac is too much
but due to a virus it complete OS so you reliable and smooth
struck can modify it for the because it has no
usage that you want virus

7.0 CONCLUSION
An operating system is the most important things that we need to explore and understand more
because it will help us to improve our lifestyle. For example, many jobs in these days were
looking for someone who know to access or have a lot of knowledge about IT especially in
computer. The operating system also has many kinds of it own, based on each company. The
all has its own difference between Windows, Linux, and Mac Os. Many differences can be
talked about for example the price, how the security work for each system, compatibility, and
reliability. We got so many choices so choose its base on your demand.
