Topic 1: Travel Blog

It was my first trip in a while with my family. One of the best and most rewarding
trips I've ever taken. I have been to several cities in Luzon because I love traveling,
especially to beautiful spots here in the Philippines. But one thing I'll never forget is our
first trip to Visayas. One of the surprising things I remember was that our motive was
not entirely to be on vacation that time, but rather to just accompany my father and help
him with our family business. It all happened back then, in the year 2019, during
summer breaks in Samar. It was 5 a.m. in the morning when I woke up, and it was
definitely dark and cold. After five hours of travelling, I could feel the hot breeze of the
air touching my face with the very bright sunlight from the sky. Finally, we are there! But
the smell of the air makes me realize the differences between living in the city and a
rural area. Since it was my first time there, I was genuinely shocked by the things I
could not imagine experiencing at all. To be honest, it was a long day of errands for my
father’s business, but it is quite fun to experience new things. Later that day, we were
on our way home because, finally, it was finished. But little did I know that something
unexpectedly happened. We were forced to stop by due to a problem with a car. Since
then, we are required to sleep overnight and repair it tomorrow morning. Likewise, we
stopped at this mini wooden boarding house with my family. It was dark and raining, so
we could not see anything around us, apart from the tiny little light coming from the
house. The next day, we were speechless at how good the views were in the area. It
was my first time seeing such a wonderful piece of nature, full of color and green from
its surroundings. Therefore, my father decided to spend our week in this area because it
was such a nice place to visit. With its waterfall, clear water, and perfect view, In
addition, the cost is not that expensive; it is quite reasonable and fair for its price; the
place, service, and food are great. It might be one of the most perfect full-package
services we ever had. However, it was quite difficult to blend in with their culture
differences and how the language barrier makes it harder to communicate with them.
Luckily, my father is quite knowledgeable about it and fluent in their language due to the
business they have had ever since for a few decades. Compared to the city here in
Legazpi, it is quite refreshing to be in Samar and feel the fresh air from the environment.
The fresh, clean air, the sound of chirping birds, or simply the swaying sounds of trees,
and the peaceful life of a rural place are good to at least experience. Since it was my
first time there, I got to take as many pictures as I could with my family and experience
how the lives of the people there are. It feels like being there makes me realize how
good the lives of the people back there were. No more gadgets or technologies that will
ruin genuine smiles when you are with family and treasuring the moment there. On the
other hand, it was also hard to communicate with them verbally at the same time with
poor telecommunication. It was hard to have contact with people from far away due to
low signals and slow mobile data. Lastly, it amazes me how different their traditions are
compared to us in Luzon because on how merely they prefer simple life and their
behavior. Also on how they give importance to their traditions and cultures especially to
how they live their lives compared to us who live mostly in bigger cities. Just simply
enjoy the day with them and have fun memories to treasure. Compared to now, we are
now being swallowed by social media, so being there at least helps me feel the real
essence of what life should be. In the end, the unexpected event turned out to be the
greatest yet most memorable one in my life.

Movie/ Drama: Our Beloved Summer and Twenty-five twenty-one

Recently, I got the chance to watch two of my favorite Korean dramas which
currently just ended not too long ago. Both of these dramas revolve around the romantic
love story of both main actors with their first love that begins from rough enemies to
friend, and friends to lovers. Our Beloved Summer is South Korean romantic comedy
drama series that was released last December 6 last year. The series is a coming-of-
age story about a former couple who are forced to come together again when a
documentary they shot in high school goes viral. It is directed by Kim Yoon-jin with
screenplay by Lee Na-eun, starring Choi Woo-shik, Kim Da-mi, Kim Sung-cheol and
Roh Jeong-eui. The drama setting was set with the currently time date which shows the
present and thus presenting the flashback which also the same as Twenty-five Twenty-
one. But in this drama it depicts the romantic lives of five characters spanning from the
year of 1998 to 2021. Directed by Jung Ji-hyun and starring Kim Tae-ri, Nam Joo-hyuk,
Bona, Choi Hyun-wook and Lee Joo-myung; It premiered last February 12 this year that
ended this April.

In a time when dreams seem out of reach, a teen fencer pursues big ambitions
and meets a hardworking young man who seeks to rebuild his life. At ages 22 and 18,
they said each other's names for the first time; and at ages 25 and 21, they fell in love.
Na Hee-do (Kim Tae-ri) is a member of the school fencing team at Seonjung Girls' High
School, but due to the IMF crisis, the team is disbanded. Despite this, she transfers to
Taeyang High School and later manages to become a member of the National Fencing
Team. Baek Yi-jin’s (Nam Joo-hyuk) family goes from “riches to rags” and is separated
due to the financial crisis. He is forced to take up several part-time jobs and later
becomes a sports reporter. In present day, Kim Min-chae (Choi Myung-bin), Na Hee-
do's daughter, quits ballet and "runs away" to her grandma's house. During her stay,
she comes across her mother's diary, which the story is then told through. (Summary for
Twenty-five Twenty-one)

A coming-of-age romantic comedy that revolves around Choi Ung (Choi Woo-
shik) and Kook Yeon-soo (Kim Da-mi), ex-lovers who broke up with a promise to never
meet again. As luck would have it, the documentary they filmed ten years ago in high
school went viral and they are forced to face the cameras together again by their
producer friend. The series depicts their complicated feelings and growth. This drama
shows what love feels like. Instead of discussing practical issues like family conflicts, it
tells a story about throb, memory and dream. Romance is revealed in many small,
unnoticed acts. (Summary for Our Beloved Summer.)

Both dramas have shared similarities and differences which makes each drama
unique on their own. Especially on how both the story was executed, same as how the
storyline goes. In terms of the story line, both revolves around romantic love story of
both main actors in the drama presenting how both love grows from ups and down of
both lovers. The way how contrasting how the characters played in each drama, and
how the buildup of the relationship of both the lovers began to grow. Both dramas show
the best example of life lessons we can learn as life goes on in our lives. Thus, different
perspective and point of view how love works between two people. It was refreshing to
watch beloved summer which talks about the difference of two people living in different
world works too. Simply by spending time a lot together even if they were rough in the
beginning, it may result from developing each other feelings. This happens where both

experience from friends, enemies, lovers, and even strangers. Comparing to Twenty-
five twenty-one where it also began from enemies to friends, to lovers, but ended up
strangers in the end. Both dramas were about the hardships of committing ones’ goal
and life and the hardship they went through as life and loves continue. But what makes
them more different is how the writer specifies the detailed of writing the story of 2521.
This story is more detailed and well written with deeper meaning to convey to the
audiences. It retells not only the story between two people but present different life
lessons we could learn while being with them in the journey as the story flows. It was
film focuses to the life story between the groups of five people who struggles in life and
how the loves worked for them. In addition, the cinematography gives a lot of
contribution the outcome of the film providing details which makes it really looks like a
film from 1900s; with its visual that are darker and it really looks like from old film. With
its unusual ending, it makes it more realistic and unique on its own. The actors and
actresses acting were impressive enough to make me feel like I am one of the
characters there. While in Our beloved summer, it was a lighter story compared to 2521.
It presents the struggles of both lovers that many people relate and learn life lesson too.
In this drama, the cinematography is much lighter and brighter that highlights the
settings that are happening in the present. For me the story is good enough to make me
feel butterflies as someone who love Romantic Comedy. But it was clear enough that
stories like this happens a lot in drama which make it also clichés among other dramas
too. Both dramas gives me butterflies to be honest at the same time also heart breaks.
Not all ending always need a happy ending, sometimes we began to watch movies or
dramas for us to escape from reality. But twenty five twenty one is a reality itself.

At first sight, I was not really into the past setting that happens in 1900s setting
but this drama hits me differently. Not only the acting of the actress and actors gives a
good impression but also how the story goes as every episode was release. In Twenty
five twenty one, makes me realize a lot of things especially a lot of lesson about love.
The buildup, the acting, the setting, the character development, and the story flow are
perfect. As someone who is not a fan of having a sad ending, though this story is really
sad, it was a harsh reality that makes it more realistic. It was sad yet a beautiful ending
there. In contrast with Our Beloved Summer, it also applies the same as what I said to
2521, if I was given a chance to recommend what I like the most, I recommend Twenty
five twenty one more. As the story hits harder especially when it reflects reality in
today’s life. But it may differ from one another as per the taste of different viewers
depending on what they like.
Topic 3: Environment Advocacy

Global warming's impacts are already wreaking havoc on human populations and
the natural world. Further temperature rises will have disastrous consequences,
necessitating immediate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change is
caused by a variety of sources, and therefore necessitates a variety of responses. One
of these elements is the amount of people on our globe. Every new person increases
carbon emissions (the wealthy significantly more than the poor) and the number of
climate change casualties (the wealthy substantially more than the poor). The climate
crisis is caused by a number of factors, one of which is population. Global Warming is
without a doubt the most serious environmental challenge that the planet is currently
facing. It is critical to comprehend the gravity of the situation. The fuel you use to power
your homes, cars, businesses, and other devices is heating up the planet faster than
expected. We are documenting the hottest days and decades in history. What's more
concerning is that the earth's temperature has risen to its highest point in the last 12,000
years. If we don't stop it now, it will only get worse.

As the planet's temperature rises, we must act collectively now rather than wait
for more. Fossil fuels are the primary cause of global warming. Humans are addicted to
burning them, resulting in the production of coal, oil, greenhouse gases, and other
pollutants. Power plants, cards, and industries emit carbon dioxide, which remains in
the atmosphere for five decades or more. This is why the earth's temperature is rising.
As a result of the rising temperature, the oceans are rising and coral reefs are dying.
Many aquatic species are becoming extinct as glaciers melt. You might be surprised to
learn that Greenland loses 20% more mass than it gains from new snowfall. As a result,
it will continue to shrink as the earth warms. Furthermore, extreme weather patterns are
visible to everyone. Heatwaves, droughts, and flooding are becoming more intense and
frequent. Hurricanes are doubling up in nature in terms of occurrence, as the Katrina
Hurricane demonstrated. Furthermore, the Greenland and Western Antarctic ice sheets
are in grave danger of melting entirely. Please keep in mind that these two ice sheets
currently hold about 20% of the world's freshwater. Sea-level rise will have a global
impact on coastal areas. Furthermore, the frequency of hurricanes, tornadoes, and
other natural disasters may become more volatile, spreading malaria and other deadly
diseases.

The time has come to act to avert global warming; otherwise, it will be
irreversible. Electricity and transportation are major contributors to global warming, so
we must start there. It is crucial to emphasize that there is no silver bullet and that we
must all work together to combat global warming. To address this situation, every home,
business, industry, and individual action is essential. We need to discover solutions to
clean up coal because it emits tons of CO2 every year. We can also combat global
warming by including agriculture into the system. We must urge farmers to adopt more
environmentally friendly farming practices. For example, they must till the ground less
frequently and plant trees on vacant property. Furthermore, the same approach must be
extended to other industrial carbon dioxide producers. For example, the transportation
industry (cars, trucks, planes, and so on) accounts for 28% of carbon dioxide emissions.
As a result, we must reduce these emissions by improving vehicle fuel efficiency.
Furthermore, it is past time to abandon oil and gasoline-based fuels in favor of greener
alternatives. Individually, we must also endeavor to live a greener and healthier lifestyle.
Try to drive less and walk or utilize public transportation more. Make recycling a habit to
avoid wasteful waste of items. Save energy by turning off appliances when they are not
in use. Most essential, plant a tree because a single tree may absorb one ton of CO2 in
its lifetime. As a result, keep in mind that change begins with you.
