Sprint Review:

Sprint Review

Your team will be researching the sprint review. Fill this worksheet out as you go. You will
be presenting your findings to the rest of the group, and sharing your worksheet so
everyone will have the information. Your worksheet and presentation will teach the rest of
the group about the sprint planning event.

Questions For Your Team To Answer

What is the purpose of the sprint review?

is to inspect the outcome of the Sprint and determine future adaptations. The Scrum Team
presents the results of their work to key stakeholders and progress toward the
Product Goal is discussed.

When does sprint review occur in the scrum cycle?

The general rule of thumb is to allow one hour for sprint review every one week of sprint
length. That means teams should time box sprint review to two hours for a two-week sprint
and four hours for a one-month sprint.

What is the time box for sprint review?

Sprint Review: The Sprint Review is a timebox of four hours or less for one-month Sprints.
During the Sprint Review, Sprint Backlog items delivered during the sprint are demonstrated
and inspected. It is also a time to adapt the backlog based on feedback.

Who attends sprint review?

include the product owner, the Scrum team, the ScrumMaster, management, customers
and developers from other projects.
Who does what; what are specific responsibilities by role?

#1) Coach – The Scrum Master acts as an Agile Coach for both the Development team and
the Product Owner. The Scrum Master in a way acts as an enabler for proper
communication between the Development Team and the Product Owner. The Scrum Master
stays responsible to eliminate the obstacle between both the other roles.

If it is noticed that the Product Owner is not getting involved or not giving proper time to the
Development Team, then it is the Scrum Master’s job to coach the Product Owner regarding
the importance of his involvement to the overall team’s success.

#2) Facilitator – The Scrum Master also acts as a facilitator for the Scrum Team. He
facilitates and organizes all the Scrum Events requested by the Scrum Team Members. The
Scrum Master also facilitates the Team in making important decisions that would increase
the productivity of the Scrum Team as a whole.

The Scrum Master never orders the Team Members to do something rather, he helps them
in achieving it by coaching and guiding.

#3) Removing Impediments – The Scrum Master is also responsible for removing the
impediments that impact the team’s productivity in delivering business. Any impediment
that the team members cannot resolve on their own comes to the Scrum Master for
resolution.

The Scrum Master prioritizes these impediments based on their impact on the team’s
productivity and business and starts working on them.

#4) Interference Gatekeeper – The Scrum Master also safeguards the Scrum Team from
outside interference and distraction so that the team can remain focused on delivering the
best value to the business after every sprint.

Describe at least three activities that occur during the sprint review other than a
demonstration of the increment.

In Scrum, each sprint is required to deliver a potentially shippable product increment. This
means that at the end of each sprint, the team has produced a coded, tested and usable
piece of software.

So at the end of each sprint, a sprint review meeting is held. During this meeting, the Scrum
team shows what they accomplished during the sprint. Typically this takes the form of a
demo of the new features.

The sprint review meeting is intentionally kept very informal, typically with rules forbidding
the use of PowerPoint slides and allowing no more than two hours of preparation time for
the meeting. A sprint review meeting should not become a distraction or significant detour
for the team; rather, it should be a natural result of the sprint.

Participants in the sprint review typically include the product owner, the Scrum team, the
ScrumMaster, management, customers and developers from other projects.

Identify at least three potential outcomes for a sprint review.

1. The result of the Sprint Review is a revised Product Backlog that defines the
probable Product Backlog items for the next Sprint.
2. The Product Backlog may also be adjusted overall to meet new opportunities.

Anti-Patterns
An anti-pattern is a common practice that is counterproductive. Jim Coplien has a slightly
different definition: "An anti-pattern is something that looks like a good idea, but which
backfires badly when applied." Describe a common anti-pattern associated with sprint
review.

Prepare To Present Your Results

Your team will teach the rest of the group what you have learned. You will be sharing your
completed worksheet (one per team) and giving us a short presentation describing what you
have learned. The timebox for the presentation is five minutes. Decide if one person will do
the talking, or if different people will present each section. Also, determine whose
worksheet will be shared with the rest of the class.
