What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with
a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot just google an
answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

How does clothing style reflect someone’s personality/lifestyle? 

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

 
My biggest interest in my life right now is fashion, which is why I chose to a project that is inspired by an
important part of who I am. I have incorporated fashion and clothing into my life everyday the past 2 years;
since I was first interested. Over the past 2 years I’ve become very knowledgeable with different clothing
aesthetics and styles. I’ve kept up with fashion trends and different clothing categories which has taught me
the most about fashion. Its my favorite hobby and I think this project will challenge me to focus more on
personality rather then trends and specific clothing styles. I want to learn more about the fashion industry
and I think this project will help me to expand my knowledge.  

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

I haven’t had any professional experience with the fashion industry, except my aunt has her own online
clothing business. She finds other clothing brands and resells their products. I’ve worked for her a
couple times so I have some experience with running a clothing business which I am interested in as a
future career. Over the last couple of years, I have learned more about fashion just by trying to keep up
with trends and finding my own style aesthetic. In the future I hope to become more knowledgeable
about the fashion industry starting with this project.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

In my future I would like to find a career within the fashion industry; either a personal stylist or store
merchandiser. If I decided I wanted to go to post-secondary I would want to get accepted into business
or fashion school. My capstone project would be the first and hopefully not the last stylist portfolio I put
together which gives me a little bit of experience in my current career interest. I also learn about
different style aesthetics and trends which I would need to know if I became a store merchandiser. I
have already learned more about fashion throughout starting my project, so I’m excited to reflect on
what I have accomplished and learned when I’m done.  

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core competencies will
be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

I will need to research the psychology science behind the thought process of clothing because I will
need to apply it when I choose my outfits and write my reflections. This research will also help to
answer my inquiry question.  
  Personal awareness & responsibility – throughout my capstone I will need to be
responsible for my time management and organization to complete my project efficiently.  
 Communication – I’m working with others for my project so its important to have good
communication between my friends participating so I can talk to them about their outfits so I
can reflect better about their personality for my reflection.

I plan to create an online portfolio that is similar to a website, using a website builder called FORMAT
or Behance. I will be uploading my photos from my phone onto the portfolio, along with my write ups I
will type on word. When I present my capstone, I will go through my portfolio and summarize my write
ups and explain why I chose this project.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.

 
For my capstone I am going to create a fashion portfolio. The portfolio theme is representation of
personality and lifestyle. I have asked 5 of my friends if I can style/ create outfits for them based off of
what I think represents their personality. I will be styling 3-4 outfits per person using my own clothes or
theirs. It has been challenging working with limited clothes but I do not plan t buy more for capstone. 
    I will create an online portfolio using a website template (FORMAT or Behance). The portfolio will
be similar to a website so it will be easy to go through and present.  
     For the pictures, I will be using a blank wall in my room as a background and using my iPhone to
take pictures of the outfits. I will have my friends that are participating try on and wear the outfits I
have planned for them. They will pose in front of the blank wall while I take pictures. I will be taking
pictures of each outfit in different poses and angles. Afterwards I will choose the best of the photos
from each outfit that I will upload onto my portfolio.  
    Since the outfits I put together are resolved around reflection of personality of each participant, I will
be doing a 2-3 paragraph analysis/reflection of why the outfits represent who they are which will also
explain why I chose them. 
     There is lots of psychological science behind how clothing represents someone and how it adds to
a person’s development. I will be researching deeper into the psychology behind clothing using a few
of your sources I cited down below.  
     When I get the photos and reflections done I will be uploading them onto my website portfolio. I will
have a 1-2 different slides for each separate person on the portfolio. First, I will show the photos then
add the reflections. The photos will be uploaded in gallery form. 
     On my portfolio I also plan to add a section about myself and I will style myself and write a
reflection about myself to make my portfolio more realistic and personal.   
       

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you will
need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the resources
necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

I originally planned to use a professional camera but it didn’t work out so instead I will be using my
phone camera. I also need a laptop; I am borrowing my mom's or the laptops provided at school
during school hours.  
   Since I will be taking photos it's important for me to have some photography skills. I took
photography 10 & 11 so I have learned to basics of how to get a good photo. I will be applying these
skills and methods when I take my outfit photos. 
   How someone dresses in a way that reflects them is part of psychology. I will be researching the
psychological reason with the connection between personality and choosing clothing.

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will you need to

Right now I’m taking textiles so my teacher, Ms. Costa, has helped me find a portfolio template and
helped me with research about different style aesthetics. I have asked her for her opinion of my idea
for my portfolio and she has given me constructive criticism back. She went to fashion school so I
trust her knowledge and judgment about how to represent clothing pieces well. It’s very coinvent for
me that I get to see her every day because I have her class this semester so I often get the chance
to ask questions and show her my updated ideas/progress.   

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

 
Some things that have stopped me from completing my capstone the way I originally planned is that
some people who have agreed to take part in my capstone have very different styles then me so its
been difficult to find clothes to use, I did my best with the clothing I had. I originally planned to borrow
a professional camera from my friend Maddie which didn’t end up working out, instead I will be using
my phone. The quality of photos won’t be as good as I wanted, but it will still work.

that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

 
Since my project is more personal, I want to involve my community. My friends that are involved in
my capstone and I have decided to donate clothing to a local clothing drive to give back, especially
during the colder seasons.
