I. GUIDE CARD

Hello everyone! I’m King PEMDAS, I am here to invite

1
you to visit my Kingdom. There you will taste fruits and
chocolates and see some other living and non living things
shaped with numbers.
Do you want
to be there?

2
But before you can enter my kingdom you have to undergo
challenges. Each challenge will unlock one door if you answer all
the exercises correctly until you reach the main gate of my place.

3
For you to be guided in what to do, let me first introduce the objective of your adventure
As you go along with your journey, you have
to…….
LMLC: Follow the correct
order of operations (PEMDAS Subtasks:
RULE) when evaluating having As you go along with your journey you have to :
more than one operations 1. Evaluate expression with more than one
operations with or without exponent and
grouping symbols.
2. Tell the importance of following the rules
3. Write the solution in evaluating the
expression.
Are you interested to explore my place?
Follow me……>

Before you take your step to the path of my palace, you

have to answer first the preliminary challenge. 4

WORD
HUNTING
Direction: Encircle the word being described by each phrase below.
M A T M O X P A E N
S H E X P O N E N T
E X P R E M Q M N E
B A S I T U I M E O
E E I B A S E N R B Did you get all the
N N L T H G I E S S words being asked?
E Q I E G T W H I N Then let us start our
E O B N X O T E T C challenging adventures
N P R A P E R W G A
E X P R E S S I O N
1. It consists of numbers with operation and grouping symbols
2. A number written at the upper right hand of a symbol. It tells
how many times the symbol will be used as a factor.
3. The factor being repeated.
4. The product of equal factors
5. The answer when you evaluate 23

Reminder: As you go along with your journey,

take note of the rules you have to follow so that 5
you will be able to accomplish you mission.
These rules are embodied in my PEMDAS
Rule. These will serve as your keys to unlock
the doors.
6

II. ACTIVITY CARD

7
ACTIVITY I:

Rule 1 If the grouping symbols (parenthesis, bracket, brace) are present,

perform operations within the parenthesis beginning with the innermost pair.

Do you think
Example: A (15-5)+2 Example: B 3 × (2+6) your answers are
10 + 2 3×8 correct?
24
12
A. Take Me out B. Let Me In…
Evaluate the following expressions Place parenthesis in the equation to
make it true

1. (4 + 20) ÷ 6 1. 15 – 4 + 5 = 6
2. 2 × (6 - 3) 2. 8 ÷ 4 × 3 = 6
3. (12 + 4 ) × 3 3. 3 × 6 + 2 = 24

Pull me Here’s your key and let’s

down
after proceed to the next
answering door….
ACTIVITY II: 8

Rule 2: Simplify expression with exponent.

What is the
second rule?
Example A: 20 - 24
20 – 16
4 Yes! You’ve unlocked 2
doors. Let’s proceed.
Example B: (3 × 22 ) + 8
(3 × 4) + 8
12 + 8
Try to evaluate these:

1. (10÷5)2 + 22

2. (2 × 43) + 8
Pull me
down 3. 27 ÷33
after
answering
ACTIVITY III:

Rule 3: perform multiplication and division as they occur from left to right. 9
Rule 4: Perform addition and subtraction as they occur from left to right..

Example: A 4×3÷2 So, before you can add or

12 ÷ 2 subtract, you have to multiply
6 or divide first.

Example: B 72 ÷ 3 × 8
24 × 8
192
1. 7×9–3+8
Answer Me First.
2. 18 – 12 ÷ 6 + 7 10
3. 9×9÷3–9+6
4. 16 ÷ 4 × 5 – 7 + 8
5. 35 ÷ 5 × 8 – 7 + 9

Did you get the answer right?

Then you already know the 4 rules in the order of operations.
Again, can you state the rules in correct order?

Very good! These rules have a shortened name which is named after me…. The
PEMDAS Rule which stands for:
P – Parenthesis or grouping symbols
E – Exponent
M – Multiplication
Pull me
down
after
answering

ACTIVITY IV: Follow the rules carefully

Example A. 10 – { 22 + [ (4 +62 ) ÷ 8 ] } 11
10 – { 22 + [ (4 +36 ) ÷ 8 ] } Rules 2
10 – { 22 + [ 40 ÷ 8 ] } Rule 1 So, how did you arrive at the
10 – { 22 + 5 } Rule 1 correct answer?
10 – { 4 +5 } Rule 2 What is the importance of
10 – 9 following the rules?
1 What rules do you follow at
home? In school?
A. It’s your turn to try….
Still having fun? Let’s enjoy
the next round.
1. 3× [52 + 32 ÷ (10 - 7)]
Come on….
2. 3× [4 – 2 × (10 - 8)+ 12 ÷ 6 ×1 ]
3. 36 ÷ {3× [4 + (9 - 8) – 2 ] - 3}
Example B.
60 + 48 ÷ 2 × 5 – 10
60 + 24 × 5 – 10 Rule 3
60 + 120 – 10 Rule 3
180 – 10 Rule 4

Hang on to your patience. Remember the harder the struggle,

the sweeter the success.

II. ASSESSMENT
CARD
14

Oh my! You can now enter my kingdom.

But you can only do it by answering the jigsaw puzzle and that’s the
time you will be able to step into my palace. All you have to do is to
pick up one piece of the puzzle from the pocket. At the back of each
piece is an expression to evaluate. Write your solution on a scratch
paper. Once you got the answer, look for it in the puzzle board and
paste the piece to the corresponding answer until you put the puzzle
together.

CARD
18
Let’s check if you have mastered your
lesson and if you really deserve to be my
special guest in my kingdom

-----Translate the problem into equation, then solve.------

1. The difference between 945.60 and 299.75 is multiplied by 3 raised
to the second power.
2. Mr. Cruz had 4,500.00. He spent 2,500.00 for food; 750.00 for
transportation, and 275.00 for other expenses and divided the rest
among his 5 brothers. How much was the share of each?

Be well! You really are my Special guest..

-Job well done!

19
Let’s Summarize

1. To evaluate expressions with more than one

operations with exponent and grouping symbols, we
have to remember the PEMDAS Rule.
2. Write the solutions by answering each operation one
at a time.
3. Follow the PEMDAS Rule in evaluating
mathematical operation to arrive at the exact answer.
