SPECIFIC COURSE INFORMATION
a. Course Description
The course introduces the concept and principles of dc motors and dc generators, known as dc machines. It
provides knowledge and skills on the starting and operating of dc machines based on their internal winding
configurations. The course also provides knowledge and information in the operating characteristics of dc motors,
electromagnetic torque, mechanical power, and efficiency, and loading characteristics of dc generator involving
voltage drop, power losses and efficiency. The course introduces the fundamentals of motor controllers and its
application to electric vehicles, light railway, aircraft, and shipping transport system. The course expounds concept
of energy conversion as applied to wind energy, solar energy, and thermocouple.
