Planning
Planning is the process used by managers to identify and select
appropriate goals and courses of action for an organization
3 steps to good planning:

1. Which goals should be pursued?


2. How should be goals be attained?
3. How should resources be allocated ?

The planning function determines how effective and efficient the


organization is and determines the strategy of the organization

Organizing
In organizing , The managers create the structure of working
relationships between organizational members that best allows
them to work together and achieve goals
Managers will group people into departments according to the task
performed.
Managers will also layout lines of authority and responsibility for

An organizational structure is the outcome of organizing . This
structure coordinates and motivates employees so that they work
together to achieve goals
Organizing as a process involves:
Identification of activities.
Classification of grouping of activities.
Assignment of duties.
Delegation of authority and creation of
responsibility.
Coordinating authority and responsibility
relationships.

Staffing
Staffing is the process of filling positions/post in the organization with
adequate and qualifies personnel
Staffing is the process of acquiring ,deploying and retaining a workforce of
Sufficient quantity and quality to create positive impacts on the
organization’s effectiveness
Objective of staffing is :
To understand manpower planning so that people are available at right time
and at right place
To understand issues related to job analysis and to overcome the problems

Staffing involves:
Manpower Planning (estimating man power in terms of
searching, choose the person and giving the right place).
Recruitment, selection & placement.
Training & development.

Directing
Directing is a complex function that includes all those
activities which are designed to encourage subordinates to
work effectively and efficiently in both the short and long
term.
Directing has its own importance in an organization which
are :
1. Initiates actions
2. Integrates employee efforts
3. Gets maximum out of individuals
4. Facilitates organization changes
5. Provided stability and balance in the organization

Directing involves
It is that part of managerial function which
actuates the organizational methods to work
efficiently for achievement of organizational
purposes.
Direction has following elements:

Controlling
• In controlling , managers evaluate how well the organization is
achieving its goals and take corrective action to improve
performance
• Managers will monitor individuals , departments and the
organization to determine if desired performance has been reached.
• Managers will also take action to increase performance as required
• The outcome of the controlling function is the accurate
measurement of performance and regulation of efficiency and
effectiveness

Controlling has following steps:

Establishment of standard performance.


Measurement of actual performance.
Comparison of actual performance with the
standards and finding out deviation if any.
Corrective action.
