Problem Set4 - Reflection - Mirrors and Images FOR GOOGLE CLASSROOM POSTING

This document is a science worksheet about mirrors and reflection. It provides definitions and explanations of key concepts like the laws of reflection, types of mirrors (plane, concave, convex), and characteristics of images formed by mirrors (location, orientation, size, type). Students are asked to answer questions applying these concepts, such as stating the laws of reflection, and describing the location, orientation, size, and type of images formed by different mirrors with objects in various positions.

PROBLEM SET#4: REFLECTION - Mirrors and Images

Remember:
1. Light travel in straight line.
2. Shadows proved that light travel in straight line.
3. Light undergo reflection and/or absorption when it hits an opaque material.
4. Reflection is the bouncing back of light.
5. Laws of Reflection states that:
a. The incident ray, reflected ray, and the normal line lie on the same point of incident in a surface;
b. The angle of incidence (ϴi) is always equal to the angle of reflection (ϴr)
6. Two types of reflection:
a. Specular Reflection – on smooth and shiny surface. Images are formed.
b. Diffuse Reflection – on rough and uneven surface.
7. Mirrors are shiny polished surfaces.
8. Types of Mirrors:
a. Plane Mirror – flat surface
b. Curved Mirror - curved surface
• Concave Mirror – curved inward. Used as reflectors, dentist mirror, in microscope, etc.
• Convex Mirror – curved outward. Used in grocery stores, rear view and sideview mirrors of cars.
9. Types of Images:
a. Virtual Image – formed by virtual rays, located behind the mirror, and always upright.
b. Real Image - formed by reflected rays, located in front of the mirror, and always inverted.
10. Images formed by mirrors can be describe using the L.O.S.T. of image.

Answer the following in your Science Notebook. ANSWER ONLY

I. LAWS OF REFLECTION:

1.

ϴr = ______

2.

ϴi = ______

3.

ϴr = ______
II. MIRRORS AND IMAGES:
Describe the images formed by mirrors using the L.O.S.T. of image:
L = location - (behind the mirror, Bet. F & V, At F, Bet. C & F, At C, Beyond C)
O = orientation - (Upright, Inverted)
S = size - (same size, smaller/reduced, larger/enlarged)
T = type – (virtual, real)

1. Plane Mirror Images:

L = ______________
O = ______________
S = ______________
T = ______________

2. Concave Mirror Images:

a. Object beyond C:

L = ______________
O = ______________
S = ______________
T = ______________

b. Object at C:

L = ______________
O = ______________
S = ______________
T = ______________

c. Object Bet. C and F:

L = ______________
O = ______________
S = ______________
T = ______________
d. Object at F:

NO L = ______________
INTERSECTION,
NO IMAGE
FORMED O = ______________
PARALLEL RAYS
DO NOT
S = ______________
INTERSECT
T = ______________

e. Object Bet. F and V:

L = ______________
O = ______________
S = ______________
T = ______________
3. Convex Mirror Images:

L = ______________
O = ______________
S = ______________
T = ______________
