3 Explain statically indeterminate structures with an example. (4)
4 Explain the three moment equation for a two span continuous beam subjected to (4)
uniformly distributed load.
5 Explain the terms carryover factor and distribution factor used in moment (4)
distribution method.

6 Find the deflection at point D of the beam shown in figure by Macaulay’s (10)
method.

7 a) An I section joist ISWB 400 and 10 m long is used as a strut with one end fixed (8)
and the other end hinged. Taking E=2×105N/mm2, determine Euler’s crippling
load. (Given Ixx=23500 cm4, Iyy=1390 cm4)
b) Also find the safe load on the strut taking a factor of safety of 3. (2)
8 a) Analyse the beam shown in figure by Consistent deformation method. (7)

9 Calculate the moments and reactions at the supports by three moment theorem. (10)
The support B sinks by 5mm. (Assume constant EI throughout the length of the
beam).

10 A beam ABC 10 m long, hinged at ends A and B is continuous over joint B and is (10)
loaded as shown in figure. Using the slope deflection method, compute the end
moments. The beam has constant EI for both the spans.

11 Analyse the portal frame shown in figure by moment distribution method. The (10)
frame is fixed at A and D and has rigid joints at B and C.
