What I Need to Knowtives
This module is designed to equip you, learners, with essential knowledge, skills, and
attitude on Dividing Fractions.
This module is designed so you can pace yourself as you use them to achieve the
prescribed learning competencies. It also aims to prepare you to be at the forefront of
the fast-growing world of industry and in your quest for higher education, middle-skills
development, employment, and entrepreneurship.
This module contains several lessons. To make the most out of them, you need to do
the following:
1. Scan the list of Learning Objectives to get an idea of the knowledge and skills you
are expected to gain and develop as you study the module. These outcomes are
based on the content standards, performance standards, and learning competencies
of the K to 12 Curriculum Mathematics 5.
2. Take the What I Know. Your score will determine your knowledge of the lessons in
the module. If you get 100% of the items correctly, you may proceed to the next
module. Otherwise, you must go through the lessons.
3. Each Lesson aims to develop one of the learning objectives set for the module. It
starts with an activity that will help you understand the lesson and meet the required
competencies.
4. Take your time in reading this module. Write down points for clarification. You may
discuss these points with your teacher.
5. Perform all activities and answer all worksheets. The activities and assessments
are designed to enhance your understanding of the lesson. The activities will also give
you an idea how well you understand the lessons. Review the lessons if necessary,
until you have achieved a satisfactory level of understanding.
6. At the end of the module, take the Post-Assessment to evaluate your overall
understanding about the lessons.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the module, you should be able to:
• compare and arrange decimal numbers
• add and subtract decimal numbers through thousandths
without and with regrouping
2
What I Know
Let us determine how much you already know about comparing and
arranging decimal and adding and subtracting decimal numbers. If you are
done and got 8 correct answers well done, you may skip this module. If you
got 0 - 7 correct answers, you can do better by proceeding with the module.
1) Compare 34.89____34.799.
A. equal B. less than C. greater than D. not equal
3) Mary, Marie, and Maria arrived at the finish line 41.67 seconds,
41.698 seconds, and 41.769 seconds, respectively. Who arrive in the
finish line first?
A. Mary B. Marie C. Maria D. Marnie

What’s In?
What’s New?
Let us learn Compare and Arrange Decimal Numbers and Adding and
Subtracting Decimals.
If the number of decimal places is not the same, zeroes may be added
to the right of the decimal to have an equal number of decimal places.
4
What is It?
Dindo was asked to cut five pieces of wire measuring close to 15.125 cm
in length. The record shows the length of the wires Dindo cut. Which wire is
the shortest? Longest?
Record Sheet
Piece Number Length (cm)
1 15.182
2 15.147
3 15.087
4 15.097
5 15.18

Example 2:
Compare 0.7 and 0.45 using block models.
Example 3:
Compare 23.547 and 23.5391.
Example 4:
Arrange each set of decimals from least to greatest and greatest to least.
1) 0.256, 0.247, 0.29, 0.26
6
LESSON 2: Adding and Subtracting Decimals
Jody bought a kilogram of sugar for Php 52.50, a bottle of vinegar for
Php 15.25, and a sachet of shampoo for Php 5.50. If Jody paid Php 100.00,
how much was her change?
We can use the block model approach to solve the problem.
Php 100.00
1) Add the prices of the three items. Follow these steps in adding decimals.
A. Align the B. Add the C. Add the tenths D. Add the ones
decimal points. hundredths digits. and tens
digits. digits.
Php 52.50 Php 52.50 Php 52.50 Php 52.50
+ Php 15.25 + Php 15.25 + Php 15.25 + Php 15.25
Php 5.50 Php 5.50 Php 5.50 Php 5.50
5 25 Php 73.25
2) Solve for the change by subtracting Php 73.25 from Php 100.00. follow
these steps in subtracting decimals.

What’s More
Let us now measure what you have learned on this module. Complete
the following statements by writing the appropriate words on the
blanks. Write your answer on the answer sheet.
1) To compare decimals, compare the values of the digits in the same place
value, starting from the __________.
2) If the number of decimal places is not the same, __________ may be added
to the right of the decimal to have an equal number of decimal places.
3) Use the symbols _____ or _____ in comparing the digits in the same place
value.
8
To add or subtract decimals:
4) align the decimal point and annex __________ when number has more
decimal places than the others.
5) __________ or _________ as with whole numbers, and regroup when
necessary.
What I Can Do
Find the value of each letter on the chart below. Then add/subtract to
get the value of each child’s name.
A B C D
A. ADD
L = __________ K = __________
B. SUBTRACT
