The Package
The Package
I couldn’t resist my excitement after years of waiting, I woke up from my bed and prepare to eat breakfast
as I saw my mother as she was preparing our breakfast.
I couldn’t avoid looking at the living room as the Christmas tree caught my attention, the decorations
were beautifully detailed with silver and golden leaves with the star on top of the tree, I couldn’t help but
wonder if I will receive a package from my father as he would spoil me with chocolates and beautiful
shoes to wear and books that I’m delighted to keep me company during weekends.
“Knock Knock, Is anyone there? There’s a package for you Mrs. Brooke”, the delivery man said as my
mother hurriedly rush to open the door and as the package was being carried inside my house. I can’t hide
my smile again looking at the box.
“Mom, can I open the box?”, I said as she replied with a nod and gave the scissors to me.
It was full of chocolates, dresses, shoes, books, and kitchen essentials as my mother grabbed a few packs
of chocolates to put them in a big bowl, as it will be a treat to the children who serenades every night
outside my house.
Looking at my dresses and shoes I thought to myself. “I wish I could walk and do the things I wanted to
do like a normal person”, I said and keep my mind from thinking positively. I know my mother and father
didn’t show me I’m different from them but sometimes I just feel hopeless Life isn’t fair, we all live with
pain and conquer to carry on.
“Darling it’s me open the door” when a familiar voice came out from nowhere, I was shocked to see my
father standing at the door as he walked in my direction, smiling as my mother gave him a quick kiss on
his cheek.
I was born with a disability and it made me question my life, but my parents didn’t fail to make me feel, I
was blessed with loving people besides me when I was growing up.
As my father grabbed my hand and suddenly hugged me, “You may not be ordinary like us, but our love
for you will never change always remember things can be bought with money but not my own daughter’s
happiness”. He said as my mother suddenly interrupted my father’s moment.
“Can I hug my pretty daughter?” mom said with tears in her eyes. I replied with a smile trying not to cry,
my mother and father hugged me tightly.
