Launch the SQL Server Installation Center by double-clicking setup.exe in the SQL Server Installation CD.

Choose upgrade from the list below:

Select the SQL instance (where the ION databases reside) that is to be upgraded, and choose next to
proceed with the upgrade.
All the features to be upgraded are selected by default, so click Next

Leave the Instance Name at the same name as the SQL 2008 Express Installation, as PME references the
instance name within the application
This is the disk space requirements check which will ensure we have enough disk space for the SQL
upgrade
Upgrade Advisor runs to ensure there won’t be any process blocked on the path to upgrade to SQL
2012.
Click Upgrade here to start the upgrade process
It should provide a checklist indicating all the upgrade was completed successfully. ASP.NET Service
could be left in a stopped state after the upgrade. Restart it and log into Web Applications to ensure
everything is functioning.
