We thank Mr. Chairman who is giving us the time to present our paper. Let us introduce
ourselves. My name is Mutia Pinasthika, and my partner is Amirah ulfah sakinah, Aqilah Sakura
Usman and vergio vendira. We are from MAN 3 Pekanbaru, Indonesia.
This opportunity, we would like to present our paper entitled “Utilization of areca nut and betel
leaves extracts as a natural pesticide for eggplant”.
Let’s begin with the introduction
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (twenty seventeen), eggplant consumption in
twenty fifteen reached six hundred ninty nine point six three (699.63) million eggplants and in
twenty sixteen it increased with eggplant consumption reaching seven hundred fourty point eight
one (740.81) million. So the need for eggplant continues to increase. To produce good quality
eggplant, strict care is needed, especially to be free from pests.
To eliminate pests from eggplant, farmers use chemical pesticides which are clearly dangerous
and have many negative impacts, including causing damage to natural resources, pollution of
water, soil, air, and plants, poisoning, emergence of new types of resistant pests, and extinction.
various types of pests.
Areca nut is a material that is easily available in the community which can be used as a substrate
for natural insecticides. Areca nut contains bioactive compounds, namely flavonoids including
tannins which are useful as a repellent for plant-eating animals. While the betel leaf which is also
easy to find contains volatiles that are able to kill bacteria (bacteriocides), and fungi.
Therefore, we innovate by making natural pesticides whose ingredients are easy to find around
us, can kill pests, and of course we can trade. This pesticide is called “Areca-cide”. We can
conclude that it is our product brand.
Several brands on the market, for example ALIKA 247 ZC which is marketed at a price of Rp.
59,500 per 100 ml, while the SAMITE 135 EC is offered at a price of Rp. 42,000 per 100 ml.
while our pesticides, if traded, the price is twenty-one thousand rupiah per five hundred ml for
extracts and IDR 10,000 per 10 ml with different water concentrations. Of course, our pesticides
are much cheaper than those pesticides.
Method :
How it works?
First, clean the areca and betel leaves then weigh each ingredient weighing 250 grams and also
cut the two ingredients into small pieces.
Then the two ingredients are blended by adding 500 ml of water or aquadest.
After finely blended, strain the ingredients to separate the extract from the pulp.
The next step is to add 5 ml of soap and mix well. This soap functions as a surfactant, namely as
a glue on plants so that these pesticides are not easily washed away by the rain.
And then put in a bottle.

Data and Discussion :
This is why we need to keep our environment safe. Because there are many disadvantages to
using chemical pesticides. Such as damage to natural resources, pollution of water, soil, air, and
plants, poisoning, the emergence of new types of resistant pests, and the death of some beneficial
insects. And also in children, stamina, intelligence, and concentration are reduced. we can
imagine how dangerous it is.
We must know the type of pest causing the damage. There were 5 types of pests found during the
study period. during the day found 4 types of pests, including shoot and fruit borer eggplant,
leafhoppers, whitefly, and thrips and in the afternoon found 1 type of pest, namely betel leaf-
eating Epilachna sp.
Result :
This is the calculation of areca nut leaf and Betel leaf extract or Areca-cide pestiside when we
trade this product.
If five hundred grams will produce five hundred ml extract with the production cost is thirty
seven thousand rupiah And the Selling price of 1 bottle of Areca-cide is twenty one thousand
rupiah we are also looking for the advantages. The profit of this product is twenty six thousand
rupiah.
What about if we are selling 1000 grams with 1000 ml of the bottle the profit is fifty two
thousand rupiah.
If we calculate the Monthly Profit Potential on 30 working days is one million five hundred sixty
thousand rupiah per month
The more we produce, the more profit we get.
We can also trade “Areca-cide” with different concentrations of water or aquadest at a price of
IDR 10,000 per 10 ml. and of course with proper permission.
Conclusion:
1. Making pesticides can be done at home

2. The manufacturing process is easy; its benefits are tested and the content is maintained
3. The creation of a safe environment
4. Great use of natural resources
5. monthly potential profit:
o 30 working days : IDR 1.560.000
