Math 5

This lesson plan aims to teach students about polygons with 5 or more sides through various engaging activities. Students will visualize, identify, name and describe different polygons individually and in groups. They will cut out polygons from worksheets and label them with the name and number of sides. Students will also make models of polygons using materials like paper, straws. They will learn about polygons through games and worksheets. The lesson evaluates students through a matching activity to test their understanding of different polygons.

Lesson Plan in Mathematics- V

Quarter III

Date: April 08, 2021

Monday

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Visualize, identify, name and describe different kinds of polygons.

Perform the given tasks individually, by pair and by group following the given house
rules/standards/guidelines.
Observe patience and cooperation in doing assigned task.

II. LEARNING CONTENT

Skill: Visualizing, identifying and describing polygons with 5 or more sides

Code: M5GE-IIIc-19
Reference: Curriculum Guide 5, p.61 and Lesson Guide in Elementary Mathematics,
p. 350-357
Materials: envelopes, cut-outs, worksheets, glue, scissors, activity cards, colored
paper, plastic straws, PowerPoint, flash drive
Value: cooperation

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Routine Activity
Good morning class! How are you today?
Opening song
It’s Math Time (Tune: It’s a Small World)

Today, we’re going to learn together, but let us agree on something first.
What will you do if your teacher is talking in front?
How about if you’re going to answer, what will you do?

2. Drill
Now, let’s have a drill. I will group you into three. Each group will receive an
envelope that contains different geometric figures.
Mechanics:
As I show to you the word, the group leader will raise the card of geometric
figure that corresponds to the word. The first group who raise the card with correct
answer gain a point.

Who got the highest score? Group…? A big hand please…Did you enjoy?

3. Motivation
Are you familiar with the word game 4 pics 1 word?
Good! Let’s try this one. Who can guess the word?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
At this point of time let me show you a simple video presentation.
Just take a look at this. Okay?
What have you seen in the video? Do you know what those shapes
are? And what are polygons? How are they classified?

2. Performing the Activity

“Cut me out”
Each group will receive again an envelope. This envelope contains
cartolina, glue, scissors, 2 pages worksheets and an activity card.

All you have to do is to follow what are stated in the activity card. I will only
give you 10 minutes to finish your work. Got it?
The first group who finished their work will be the first also to report. I will give
points in reporting and in the neatness of your works.

Cut Me Out!

Step 1: Cut-out the figures on the worksheets carefully.

Step 2: Paste them on the cartolina.

Step 3: Label them below with their names and number

of its sides.

Step 4: Post the finish work on the board.

Step 5: The reporter of each group presents their work to

the class by identifying and describing each figure.

Why do some groups finish their work earlier than others? What values were
shown when you work as a group?

3. Fixing Skills
Group Activity:
House Rules/Standards/Guidelines: (Follow the memory device.)
G- Give thoughtful feedback
R- Respect others & their thoughts
O- On task all the time
U- Use soft voices
P- Participate actively
S- Stay with your group

Group the pupils into three.

Group 1-Make models of different polygons by:
Paper Mosaic/Paper Mache/Plastic straws

Group 2- Draw the following polygons.

1. Heptagon
2. Pentagon
3. Hexagon
4. Octagon

Group 3- Directions: Create a simple song about polygons.

How do you find the activity? What materials are used in the activity? Are
they new? What can we do with objects that are old or we don’t want to
use anymore?

C. Application
Let’s Play a Game. Form a group of two. The group who got the highest
point will be given a reward.
Tell Me
A polygon with 6 angles
A p0lygon with 5 sides
A polygon with 7 sides
A polygon with 8 vertices
A polygon with 9 sides
A polygon with 10 sides
A polygon with 7 vertices
A polygon with 8 angles

D. Generalization
What are polygons? How are they classified? What do you call a polygon with 5
sides? 6? 7? 8?

IV. Evaluation

Match column A with column B. Write the letter of the correct answer on the space provided before each
number.
(Distribute a test paper to each pupil.)

A B
_____ 1. a polygon with 5 sides a. pentagon
_____ 2. a polygon with 10 sides b. octagon
_____ 3. a polygon with 8 sides c. nonagon
_____ 4. a polygon with 6 sides d. hexagon
_____ 5. a polygon with 9 sides e. decagon

V. Assignment

If you could be any shape, what would it be? Describe and explain why you choose that
particular shape. Write your answer in a clean short bond paper.
