It discusses the problem background and significance of studying entrepreneurship. It introduces the theoretical framework of Tinto's student retention model and provides a conceptual framework outlining the study's inputs, process, and expected output. The study seeks to determine students' demographic profiles, levels of various influencing factors, academic performance, and relationships between these variables. It is hoped that identifying these factors can help improve teaching quality and student motivation, benefiting students, educators, the school, families, and society.

CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

In the Philippines, around 19.99 million Filipinos are living below the poverty

line (Philippine Statistic Authority, 2022). This means that almost 1/5 of the population is

incapable of meeting their basic food and non-food needs. Consequently, this study is

conducted to help improve the lives of poor people. It has the potential to improve the life

of anyone involved in business.

The study of entrepreneurship by the students will eventually impact the nation’s

economy. Successful entrepreneurs generate a huge positive impact in society. At the

local level, a proper understanding of entrepreneurship will provide a good living for

individuals as well as the means of providing for their families. Studying

entrepreneurship encourages the next generation of business owners. Due to these

reasons, it is imperative to know the factors that affect the academic performance of the

students. A proper understanding of the underlying factors is necessary in maximizing the

effectiveness of the program.

Theoretical Framework

This study uses the Tinto Model of Retention by Dr. Vincent Tinto. This theory

states that a student’s previous experience has a huge impact on their college experience.

This study suggests that a solid grounding in entrepreneurial studies will positively

impact an individual’s future education in regard to economic and business-related fields.

Conceptual Framework

The figure below represents the input and the process it has to undergo in order to

attain the desired output. The demographic profile of the respondents including age,

gender, grade level, and strand, and the different factors affecting their academic

performance gathered and analyzed through a questionnaire and will be statistically

treated. Based on the survey data which were administered through the use of

questionnaires, the following conceptual framework has been formulated to determine the

influence of different factors on the academic performance of Senior High School

students and their Academic Performance in the entrepreneurial subject.

performance of the respondents.

Ho2. There is no significant relationship between the factors and academic performance

of the respondents.

Significance of the Study

The students. The students will gain awareness and knowledge to help them identify the

factors affecting their academic performance, which will help them to adjust if needed.

The current/future educators. This study can be a valuable contribution to improve the

teaching quality and competencies of the teachers at Saint Ferdinand College.

Saint Ferdinand College. This study will encourage the school to implement more

programs to enhance the teaching skills of the teachers in order to increase the motivation

of the students if necessary.

skills are successfully acquired by the students and are used efficiently. In the long run,

these students will contribute to the country’s economic growth.

To Future Researchers. This study encourages future researchers to conduct a related

study that has a valid impact in society. It would help them to become knowledgeable and

become a better analyst of this research topic. The findings of this study will serve as a

reference material and a guide for future researchers who wish to conduct the same or

any study related to improving the entrepreneurial skills of the students.
