Grad Speech
A graduation ceremony is always such a special occasion - the culmination of years of hard work; the actualization of goals attained and the
acknowledgement of successes achieved. So, it is only fitting that now we commemorate the road that we have all traveled together these last two
years.
I am happy that despite this unprecedented pandemic that has been around for almost two years now, the delivery of education never stops. We have
been facing so many challenges these past couple of years but as resilient as we are, we have come out victorious against the odds. Thus we are
gathered here today for the celebration of our success.
School year 2020-2021 was not easy. LCEST went through a lot of challenges, and struggles just to make sure the delivery of education needed by our
students will not be hampered by our present circumstances. Teachers were forced to enter into new modalities of catering learning brought about by
these tumultuous situations. Like any production, show or movie, behind the scenes, there is a huge commitment going on just to make sure that all is
flowing smoothly despite the challenges. To the faculty and staff, thank you for your dedication to the profession that you have chosen.
The dear parents of the graduating class played a vital component in your children’s education. The school couldn’t have done it, had it not been for
your support and dedication to your children’s learning. On behalf of LCEST, I would like to commend each of you for your hard work and commitment.
To our dear graduates: The last stretch in your high school life may not have been so easy for you were forced to enter into a situation that neither of
us was used to – you spent the last year of your basic education staying at home, you did much of your learning by yourselves, you spent a lot of time
reading your modules and/or using your gadgets to communicate with your teachers and do some research in order to accomplish what were asked of
you, you spent more time with your family and even have them involved in some of your activities/performances, you missed having some fun being
with your classmates and friends inside and outside of the classroom and many other things that many of us, if not all, have experienced for the first
time.
Today, as we celebrate the culmination of all the efforts that you have exerted, you were supposed to proudly march down the aisle with you parents
while wearing you caps and gowns as symbols of your successful efforts in reaching the end of your basic education. Yet, our present condition
prohibits us to have it the way it used to be.
Nevertheless, I am sure that even if we missed many of the things that we used to do concerning the way you study and execute the end of it, I am still
sure that the lessons you have learned will surely guide you towards a brighter future. Malcolm X, an African American leader in the civil rights
movement, minister and supporter of Black Nationalism, once said, “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who
prepare for it today.”
The education that you have earned is not for the good and the benefit of others but for you our dear graduates. As what we commonly hear from
Filipino parents, “Edukasyon lamang ang tanging yaman na aming paipapamana o maiiwan sa inyo aming mga anak. Kaya mag-aral ng maigi para sa
inyong kinabukasan.” I believe will all my heart that the years that you have spent in your basic education, especially of course the last two years that
you spent in Senior High School, will not go through the passing of time as wasted days of your existence.
As you move on to the next chapter of your lives – be it pursuing a college degree, finding employment or starting your own businesses, bring with you
wherever you may be the values, the skills and the knowledge that you have acquired in the past years. But not only that you bring them with you, but
you execute things with excellence as what your Alma Mater’s name states – LCEST.
But how do you show excellence in the things that you do? Allow me to share some ways to strive for excellence from Sarah Lehberger is a family
photographer based in Easton, Connecticut:
- know yourself and your strength
- Share your knowledge and talents with those who value them
- Practice gratitude for the small and unpredictable moments
- Learn something new as you work towards being your personal best
Let me conclude this with a quote from Dabo Swinney – “Continue to do common things in an uncommon way. Continue to be 'all in.' Continue to apply
'best is the standard.' Continue to be a person of excellence in everything you do.”
To the proud parents of Batch 2020-2021, the faculty and staff of LCEST, the graduates, congratulations for a job well done. To God be all the glory!
